Curising in January ?

Green Boy

Recommended Posts

just booked a cruise in January for Key West and Nassau, and I was wondering what the temp was like ? I looked a the average temp for Nassau and it showed around 78 for the high and 67 for the low...

hoping this is correct.. 78 in January would be perfect... :)

have only cruised in the Fall and Spring before..

I only cruise in December, January, February and March and we have really enjoyed the weather in those months in the Carribean. It actually got too warm for us in Cozumel in February, as it reached the upper 80's on our port day. There is always a chance of a cold snap of course in Florida in January, but even then we are not talking about freezing weather, it almost never freezes in the Keys even at night.

The air temperature will most likely be quite pleasant. However, the water will be cold that time of year.

We have always cruised the end of January. This year it is was a bit earlier, the second week. We did a B2B. First in the Bahamas. It was nice and warm, not too hot and the water was perfect. The second cruise was the southern Caribbean. Aruba was the hottest, low 90's. Water was also warm. But we are from Oregon and warm to us might be cold to someone who lives in a warmer climate. We didn't need to towel off after getting out of the water. That should say something.

I like to cruise in January. Granted, I'm from the midwest so I consider 40 a heat wave that time of year. The last sea day is typically a little cooler, but I'm usually a little tired of the sun by that point and okay with heading inside for awhile.

Seven out of 11 of our cruises have been the end of January. Great weather in the Caribbean.

We normally take a "get away from winter cruise" in January or February. This past January it was about 80 in both KW and Cozumel. Coz was very windy though, but we were able to wear shorts and lay out in the sun on the sea day. :)

Some of the best weather of the year.

Like anywhere, and you can tell by the responses you're getting, the weather can be variable in the Bahamas in January, and people's opinion of that weather is also going to be variable.

I've been to the Bahamas twice in January. The first time we were there, the air temperature might have gotten to 70, so needless to say, the water temp for swimming with the dolphins was also quite chilly.

This past year, the air temperature was higher, and we went to a beach, and the water temperature was fine for swimming. Keep in mind, I have also tried spending time in Lake Michigan which is cold. People don't know what cold water is until they take a dip there.

Both times, it was chilly on the ship going to the Bahamas.

I do love a January cruise to escape the cold and decompress from all the holiday madness. :D Weather is really variable for the Bahamas. Further south is pretty warm but the Bahamas and South Florida while typically warm, can have cold snaps that time of year. I've been in Miami to 40 degree temps overnight before a January cruise.

You won't need heavy winter gear, but bring jeans or long pants and a sweatshirt just in case you hit one of those cold snaps.

Thanks everyone,

I figured the water would be to cold to swim, but I was hoping that it would be warm enough to wear shorts and enjoy the sunshine..

so now i'm really looking forward to this cruise... but I will pack a few longsleeve shirts and a couple pair of jeans....

We've been in December and January...On the December trip we stopped in Orlando and swimming wasn't even a thought, haha-I wore pants and a tshirt and I was fine though.

In January when we were in the the Bahamas we didn't really go swimming, but we rented some jetskis and we were fine. :)

We only cruise Dec or January, a chance to get away from snow and below 0 temps. Could not imagine wanting to cruise June-Sept when one can play outside and avoid snow. All our cruises the weather has been fine for swimming or relaxing. Last cruise I didn't even bring any long pants on board.

Then again, for some of us 70 is hot and 80 unbearable....all depends on what climate your used to. For me, if the weather could stay 60-75, I'd be a happy man
