ScottC4746 Posted September 19, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2013 From what I have found on the boards on HAL's Alaskan Cruises it looks like the main dining room for dinner does not have a traditional cruise fare, that being Italian theme one night, French theme one night, etc. but hits heavily on local Alaskan cuisine. It this true?

It this true? You'll find the food on the Alaska Cruises that same as any other cruise. They will have more Alaska Seafood on the menu than say the Caribbean. They always have items that don't change from day to day as well.
Mary Ellen Posted September 19, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 19, 2013 It has been ages since we've seen 'theme' nights like French, Italian, Dutch... on HAL. On our HAL Alaskan cruises there have typically been two entrees of salmon on the menu each night. That is in addition to the 'always available' menu choice of salmon. Krazy Kruizers Posted September 19, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 19, 2013 It has been years since there has been a Dutch Night, Italian Night, French Night, etc. on any ship on any itinerary. BUT -- some of the late night snacks in the Lido are themed -- Mexican, etc.
sail7seas Posted September 19, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 19, 2013 I don't remember Cuisine Theme Nights on HAL ships for a great many years. Last I clearly remember goes back to late '90's sailing in Europe on Rotterdam. It was a while after they still offered Dutch Night but that, too, is long a part of the past. garydm Posted September 19, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 19, 2013 We have been on the Oosterdam to Mexico, the Med, and Alaska. We saw very little difference in the menu offerings.
Rare Crew News Posted September 22, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 22, 2013 I have scanned all of the menus for the Zuiderdam, May 2013, at the link below. As you can see there are no theme nights but salmon is served more often than other cruise locations. http://www.rogerjett-photography.com/?page_id=
startwin Posted September 22, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 22, 2013 Apart from salmon being served more frequently, the menus are pretty much the same as usual. Not sure what "Alaska cuisine" is, really. I haven't seen themed nights for years - the only exception now is the International Menu, on the last evening.
