Helicopter company in Hilo

We are looking to do a volcano helicopter tour in Hilo later this year and were wondering which helo company Princess works with. We are debating booking through the cruise line or independently. We like Blue Hawaiin, have flown with them in the past in Kauai and really like the eco-star helo - so much more room and quieter. So - was wondering if any one knew which helo company Princess contracted with so we can check out which type of choppers they use.

Thanks in advance!

We flew with Blue Hawaii for both Hilo and Kauai they are great and highly recommended a good rating.

We took a cab because the airport is really across the street but the entrance is the other side. You can grab a cab outside the terminal they will be lined up. You will see planes coming and going from the ship your that close.

A word of advice is if your booking this to see lava wait closer in to book because if no lava is flowing its a pretty boring ride with lots of twisted turns ups and downs which made us both quizze and really all your see is cold hardened lava. Unfortunetly for us the lava stopped a day or two before.

If i had to choose between Hilo and Kauai it would be hands down Kauai and other who have done both would probably agree.

You fly over Napali Coast and see many hidden waters falle that you cant get to, its just spectacular.

Thanks for that - well aware of the great trip in Kauai, as I noted, have done it several times with Blue Hawaii and it is wonderful!

Also thanks for the tip about booking a little closer to arrival to see how the lava is flowing. Good info! And we are well aware that the airport is just a few minutes away and cabs are readily available, but thanks for the reassurance. We have been to Hilo before, both on land trips and by sea. This time around, we wanted to try for the helicopter tour as we have always enjoyed them in other places.

Hence, we are really looking to find out which company Princess contracts with in Hilo. If it is Blue Hawaii, then great. If not, then we will book ourselves with BH as we prefer their Eco-Star choppers.

So, if anyone has any info on who Princess contracts with, it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, we'll just make our own plans.

Thanks again in advance.....

In the video that Princess shows on their excursions page for the Volcanic Landscapes tour, the helicopter is a Blue Hawaiian A-Star. I agree, I'd rather do the tour on their Eco Star.

Thanks! Somehow, we must have missed the actual helicopter when watching the video. Will watch it again. Hope that is the case, but will probably end up booking the Eco-star as it is so much more comfy and quieter! Thanks again.
