JanDom Posted September 25, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 25, 2013 Hi, we are looking to go for a cruise on the Celebrity Infinity in 2014. We were looking for good cabins for our 14 days cruise and really like the aft cabins. The cabins are shown to me are 9201 and the accesibel cabins on deck 7, 8 and 9 right in the middle aft on the ship. Is it possible to book this cabins, even if we do not have or need a wheelchair ? Because the balcony looks much much bigger and I like deck 8 more then deck 9 it would be great to get this cabin. We also think of a "normal" Balcony Cabin on Deck 7 (7177). Is aconcierge cabin worse the price ? And can anyone tell me which cabins have the name "sweet 16" ? Thank you for your help and sorry for my bad english. kitty9 Posted September 25, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 25, 2013 Seeing there are so few cabins for those who really NEED an accessible cabin, why do you feel it's OK to book one just because you want a bigger balcony. No, it's definitely not right to book one of these cabins if you don't need one. I'm disabled and I cannot tell you how many cruises I've not been able to take because the accessible cabins were already booked. If you try and book an accessible cabin, you will be required to fill out a form stating why you need the cabin and what devices you need, such as a wheelchair, mobility scooter, walker, oxygen tanks and things like that. You have to sign that paper and fax it back a month before the cruise. If you want to wait until after final payments are made, and if the accessible cabin is still available, then Celebrity will allow anyone to book those cabins. But, since there are so few, they are not available so late in the process 99% of the time.
grayjay Posted September 25, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 25, 2013 I'd second the view that accessible cabins should be left for those who have need of them. Sometimes you are assigned one if you book a guarantee cabin if it hasn't been booked before by somebody of that passenger group until a specific time period - for example shortly before a cruise . You are asking about the cabins at the aft of the ship. On "Infinity" those are on decks 7-9 and they are in a primary location ( we have sailed several times in one of those cabins and simply LOVE them, but as category C1 cabins they quite often come at a stiff price!). They are Concierge cabins, i.e. they are a bit bigger, the balcony of these aft cabins is quite often huge and you have a beautiful view of the wake. You also get a few niceties like a bottle of sparkling wine , some fruit and daily canapés. You mention cabin 7177 - a regular balcony cabin with a bigger balcony as well - part of your view will be a bit obstructed because you look down at the awnings of the suites below you. I couldn't find 9201 on my deck plans. What cruise are you considering? If you give us a bit more information we might be able to offer more help, too. Ask away! And: Welcome to Cruise Critic! bob278 Posted September 25, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 25, 2013 I agree that someone who does not need a accessible cabin should not book it. I did not interpret the OP's post as necessarily indicating that they would book one under misleading circumstances. The cabins are being offered to her and she was asking if it was really possible. The answer is yes, sometimes they are released for booking to the general public but my understanding is that in those cases, the person booking the cabin is told they may be moved or possibly upgraded if someone with a demonstrated need requests a cabin in that category. To answer the other questions: In my opinion, concierge is not worth much extra cost over a standard balcony on S-class ships (Solstice, Eclipse, Equinox, Silhouette and Reflection) as the cabins and balconies are the same size. On the M-class ships (Millennium, Infinity, Summit and Constellation), the concierge cabins are noticeably larger than the other cabins and the balconies are similar in size. Concierge Cabins are rated as 191 square feet with 41 sq ft balconies Standard balcony cabins are rated as 170 sq ft with 38 sq ft balconies Sweet 16 cabins are 170 sq feet but the balconies are about 60 - 70 sq feet because they are much deeper (see picture) The benefits are a little better, but I would personally not pay more than about $50 - 100 per person (depending on length of cruise) on S-class or maybe $150 - 200 on the M-class. Of course each person has to decide what the double Captain's Club credit and special check-in line and other perks are worth to them. This is just my opinion. The sweet 16 cabins are only on the M-class and can be found on the Penthouse deck in cabin numbers 6016 - 60330 on the starboard side and 6021 - 6035 on the port side. The cabins are smaller than concierge, but the balconies are much larger. 9201 is on deck 9 of M-class ships and is between the interior FV cabin 9199 and accessible C1 9164. JanDom Posted September 25, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted September 25, 2013 @kitty9 Hi Kitty, this is why I asked, because I was wondering they show me this cabin to book it and there wasn't any information about this. If I did not mind about those things and only think about the balcony, I would not have ask the question. For me it is self evident that persons who need a cabin like this should have it but I was wondering why they show me a cabin like that. So please don't be mad with me :) @grayjay Thank you. We are interested in the cruise to the northland starting for 14 days on the last day of may. Cabin 9201 is an aft cabin right next to the accesible cabin. Or there are cabins on deck 6 betwenn the suites ? Are they better than the cabin on deck 7 ? Thank you for helping
JanDom Posted September 25, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted September 25, 2013 @bob278 the cabin on deck 7 with a larger balcony is 350 € ~ 480 $ cheaper than the concierge cabins aft or between the suites with larger balcony. This is why we are thinking if we will do it or not .... If we book a "normal" balcony, is it possible to upgrade later maybe to a concierge class cabin ? Thank you so much for helping
bob278 Posted September 25, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 25, 2013 You can always change your booking and upgrade. It depends on the country you are in and your travel agent to determine if there is a fee for making the change other than the difference in price. We have never stayed in one of the cabins among the suites on deck 6. We love the aft cabins and you are right on the edge of what I would pay for an aft cabin. If the northlands cruise includes Norway, I would get the aft cabin in a heartbeat. The views are magnificent and the aft cabin lets you see both sides of the fjord as you sail in and out. I would take 9201 so there is no chance you would be bumped out of it. The accessible balconies are wider but no deeper (both are close to 20 feet deep) and 9201 will be plenty big enough for you and 10-15 of your friends to stand and watch the sights. Click here to check the view of the aft of the ship from my roll call website. 9201 is just above my cabin on that cruise (8185).
Happy Cruiser 6143 Posted September 25, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 25, 2013 One thing to be aware of is that in cabin 9201 you will hear scraping of tables and chairs being moved around overhead. This may or may not be an issue for you.
JanDom Posted September 25, 2013 Author #9 Share Posted September 25, 2013 Hi Linda, thank you for your answer. We normally go to bed not too late but get up pretty early. So we will hear it only in the evening. The question is : will there be many People during a cruise in the nordland ? I don't know ?!? There are too many cabins ;)

They tend to discount the cabin prices to attract people, so I would guess the ship will be full or real close to being full if that is your question. grayjay Posted September 25, 2013 #11 Share Posted September 25, 2013 @JanDom : I'm sure you'll love that cruise to the fjords and Iceland. We're considering that same cruise ourselves because we've been to the fjords several times now and just love the scenery. 9201 ( found it now!) will be a great cabin. But you should also consider another idea and solution: I have seen that the price for an Aqua Class cabin is just about 10$ more - category A1, several aft cabins on deck 11 still open. So you could have both the view to the aft and all the benefits of Aqua Class, too. And you can certainly upgrade or get a price drop. Unfortunately most price drops appear after final payment day - in Germany price drops are honoured until 60 days prior to the cruise, after that time, only upgrades are possible if you pay MORE than your original cabin price. I hope this helps a bit in your decision.
akowilm Posted September 26, 2013 #12 Share Posted September 26, 2013 See if 1138, 1140 or 1141 are available. They are aft and aqua. They are above the Sunset bar, so you might hear a little noise if you go to bed really early.

Ships generally sail full these days, so there will be a fair number of people.
JanDom Posted September 26, 2013 Author #14 Share Posted September 26, 2013 @grayjay Which cabins are shown to you ? A1 are oly shown 1100 - 1110 to me. Here I have to take one side or the other 1138 - 1141 would be perfect, but it seems like they are already gone @happy cruiser What I thougt of is, how many people will use the outdoor bar. Because we will go to norway and iceland, so it won't be that warm to sit outside in the evening. What I now also saw is that the aft cabins have awnings. Maybe it will be to dark on this cruise ? We don't think of getting too much sun there  Thank you for all your help and answers !!!

Try typing in the cabin numbers you want to look at - you can use either Celebrity's American web site or a specialized German travel agency whose name I'm not allowed to mention. That's what I did - and hurray, they showed up as still open. Good luck!
rwr235 Posted September 26, 2013 #16 Share Posted September 26, 2013 Hi, I'm surprised Linda (Happy Cruiser 6143) has not recommended cabin 6143...which is currently showing available for that cruise !!:D We have stayed in one of the C1 cabins on Deck 9, under the OceanView Bar outdoor area...and the noise was not bothersome at all...we could hear it at times, but never to the point, or the frequency, that it was a negative issue...and the huge balcony was just wonderful !! Hi Jan, we booked through a large German travel agency that specializes on cruises, shows "all" available cabins, and advertises a "Preissenkungs-Service" (until 6 weeks before departure). We booked a 2B cabin through them in January, used their "best price guarantee" when the price dropped by 80 Euros later in the month (no additional cost), switched to a C3 cabin in July when the price dropped to only 19 Euros more than our 2B (no additional fee besides the higher price for the C3), used their "best price guarantee" when the price of the C3 dropped a few weeks later (no additional cost) and switched to a Concierge Guarantee when it became available (cost us 40 Euros "Umbuchungsgebühr" but saved us 160 Euros). Because of the guarantee we are now in a Concierge Cabin and have still saved 200 Euros per person since booking (the cheapest balcony cabin is currently more than what we paid and we are sailing in five weeks). Book what you think you would be happy with (for us that was a 2B, mid-ship, low deck) and then take it from there. Of course there is also the possibility that the price might not drop and we were aware of that but upgrading and taking advantage of the lower prices is definitely possible. JanDom Posted September 26, 2013 Author #18 Share Posted September 26, 2013 OOOHHH We did it !! We just booked Aqua Class Cabin 1140 :):) Thank you so much for all your help. We already used the "best price guarantee" for other problems, everytime without a problem. We think that the Cabin No. 1140 might be a very good cabin and other people will book it also, so we won't have to wait until we can upgrade maybe. So now we have this cabin for sure, a huge balcony for sure, the Blu and the Persian Garden for sure and if the price will change we will call Celebrity and will ask for the better price. Because we booked now, we will also get 300$ on Board Bonus ! We are happy - thank you so much !! :D:D:D:D

And it sounds like the OP got an aft.

We didn't find the food lacking, either. We ate regular meals in the MDR and on one cruise had meals in BLU - of course on some days the food was excellent, on some days tending more to the average. For example we liked the steaks and meats better than the fish, even if in general we prefer fish. Buffet was o.k., too, even if we thought that the quality offered was a bit less than we were used to on our cruises on Celebrity's ships a year before. But we are still booked on two more cruises on "Infinity" for 2014 - so we must have been happy customers, right?

I spent 30 some days on the Infinity this spring. I thought the food was fine. My only complaints would be about some of the staff who didn't seem in touch with providing the usual Celebrity excellent customer service. But all those folks should be long gone when you board her, so not a problem.
2ndsailing Posted September 28, 2013 #24 Share Posted September 28, 2013 Have any of you stayed in this cabin? We were booked to be on the Century in February 2014 but the Century is going into drydock. We were given a number of cruises to choose from and we picked a Panama Canal on the Infinity for March 2015. Since the Infinity didn't have the type of cabin we had booked on the Century we were given a S2 (6118). Anything we should know about this cabin? Other comments from your October 24 sailing would also be appreciated, Many thanks!
