Upgrade

We have been upgraded from an obstructed OV to an ocean view on deck 6 on the Coral princess. Room F502 is the first room , and very near the casino. Will we hear the noise, or smell smoke? We have 48 hours to make a decision. This is a Panama Canal cruise. Thanks for any advice.

Which cabin did you have?

Personally, I don't like most of the obstructed view cabins on Princess ships...You could be staring out your window at the side of a large tender...almost like an inside cabin! OTOH, there are SOME that aren't as bad...We had an obstructed view on the Sapphire Princess that was up on the Caribe deck...and it was only obstructed because of the pole that supports the bridge--which blocked only a part of the view...

Have you tried to negotiate a different cabin in the same category? Maybe there's somewhere else they could move you? You're going to definitely get a lot of traffic near that cabin...and, if you are sensitive to smoke, that could be a problem as well...though there is a wall between your hall and the casino...

This looks like a great location to me. The Casino entrance is on the opposite side of the ship so you shouldn't have any smoking issues. The only people using the corridor to these cabins are the people going to the cabins. It's not a shortcut; it's a dead end. The only noise you might hear or experience would be from the stabilizers if they are deployed and the ship is experiencing a lot of side-to-side wave motion. I would certainly consider booking in this location. FYI, the lifeboats are above this deck so there wouldn't be any obstruction.

I personally would not hesitate to take that upgrade.

The Fiesta Deck cabins are new on the Coral with the last drydock, done earlier this year. They also added the International Cafe which part of the prior casino space on the starboard side.

Since they are recently installed they should also have the newer pillow top mattresses, if that matters to you.

Of course, those photos are from the E deck, the cabin the OPIs asking about is on F...so one deck below...

Those photos showing windows blocked completely by a tender is exactly why I WOULD elect to take the upgrade...

Actually, you're both wrong. :( Theo's website shows the obstructed view cabins on Emerald deck, deck 8... two decks above the OPs cabin on Fiesta deck 6. The tenders will be well above the OP's cabin, as I posted above. :) They are suspended above the Promenade on deck 7 and thus block the views of the cabins on deck 8.

Take the upgrade, we were in 504 in may. It is a great cabin. Once the door to the hallway closes and you close, your cabin. It will be quite. I did not hear the casino at all and did not get a smoke smell. You are a two minutes from coffee in the international cafe. We really enjoyed the cabin.

Thanks Pam, yes you are correct. However, looking at the new deck plans the entrance to the casino is right next to the entrance of that corridor. F502 being the first cabin might have some residue coming from the casino. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I find the smell of cigs noxious and disgusting; however, I'd take that cabin in a second. The view will be better, the cabin itself newer, and the location very convenient. There will be few people actively smoking standing right at the casino entrance, especially since the machines aren't situated right there but further inside the space. Anyway, there's a door there at the end of your corridor -- you could always ask to have it kept closed.

You probably don't have 48 hours. Your old cabin is most likely gone by now. I've never been told I had 48 hours to accept an upgrade; it's just been a done deal.

No, you are right and I was wrong about the casino entrance but I still think there won't be residual smoke. The cabin doorway looks as though it's down the corridor a little way, not directly next to the hallway entrance. The main part of the casino is further in on its side of the wall. Since this is a newly designed area, I'm guessing that better air extraction and filters were installed. The only time I've smelled smoke from the casino was on the Diamond and I think that was because the doorway is very wide and leads directly into the main part of the casino. The Coral has a different design.

Just an update, we were on vacation when the upgrade happened. We got home last night, and today I was able to change my room from f502 to f508! A small change, but I think it will make a difference in any noise or smoke problems. Thanks again for all your help!!!

I had friends who scouted out the new rooms on the Coral. She said that it was a regular ocean view cabin, but there was no "evidence" of casino fall out. It is very close to the new International Cafe and Facets.

I just returned from a cruise in a Window Suite on the Golden Fiesta Deck (6). The Window Suites were across from the Cigar Lounge. You could smell the smoke in the hall as you walked to the Princess Theater, but not in the hallways of the suites. I am not trying to compare the cabins, just the view from the location. Loved it! It was so very convenient. I would love to have more ships with Window Suites (currently there are 3), but I would take a ocean view on the Coral on this deck anytime. Maybe Princess will listen to these posters.
