Gold Coast Cruisers Posted September 27, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2013 OMG this is HUGE. I can't help but wonder if this is a sensible thing for Royal Caribbean to be doing. Ships this size cannot dock in many ports and harbours so what will they do with them all when there are so many restrictions for these large ships. My RCL shares are healthy now, wonder if it will stay that way? Jill http://cruisepassenger.com.au/2013/09/cruise-ship-big/
NSWP Posted September 27, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2013 Not for me thanks, they could not possibly tender in, too many pax. Managing shorex would also be an issue, imagine the line up for the 'stickers' to go on your tour, yikes, 6018 pax. Celebrity Solstice was too big for me. For me personally, the Princess Grand Class ships are plenty big enough thank you. These Royal Caribbean Mega Ships are like floating cities. We cruised on Voyager at 138,000 tons and liked that size. There was never a problem with queues or going ashore they ran the ship like clockwork for embarking and disembarking everywhere we went. Not sure about 227,000 tons and 6018 pax, that's a lot of people. It's not a town....it's a city.... Jill:)
The_Big_M Posted September 27, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 27, 2013 It’s just another Oasis class ship though, so the same restrictions apply as her sisters. It’s just a fraction bigger for bragging rights, like how they did the extra with Allure. As this is planned later, they’re tweaking a bit more. Whether Oasis appeals or not is another story of course.

This addition will make 4 Oasis Class ships all of whom cannot access many ports in the world therefore restricting the use of these ships for their life. Jill:)

There is also an option for a 4th ship, but that has not been taken up. My view is that if all things stay positive with their economy, the 4th will be taken up. So you're saying it's referring to Quantam of the Seas then? Jill:)
The_Big_M Posted September 28, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 28, 2013 So you're saying it's referring to Quantam of the Seas then? Jill:) No, Oasis class and Quantum are different classes of ships. This refers to the 3rd Oasis class ship, which has just started being built. It doesn't have a name yet. They started building the Quantum much earlier this year. silverwillow Posted September 28, 2013 #9 Share Posted September 28, 2013 That's really surprising, I thought they had decided against another Oasis class but I assumed this due to them building Quantum class. I wonder where it will cruise from.
The_Big_M Posted September 28, 2013 #10 Share Posted September 28, 2013 Where is what people are guessing. I just think it would be too many if it were added to the Caribbean. That's not to say the market couldn't handle it, and it evidently has the infrastructure and facilities. But I'd like to think they'd deploy to Europe or another run to make its facilities available to others.
