dotcomgirl Posted September 27, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 27, 2013 We bought two trays on Amazon for about $5 apiece. They are very lightweight and we plan to throw them in our suitcase and use them on the cruise. They even make ones in kid's size.

k2excursion Posted September 28, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 28, 2013 Carnival has recently moved away from trays in favor of big plates. Not big enough to carry food plus drink safely. I have to be very careful. I don't know how the people with kids work it out. I'm surprised there aren't more drops, especially of the drinks, with the removal of trays. Why are cruise lines doing this? Just got back from a Celebrity S class ship that has two size of plates. For most meals this means at least two trips to get beverage, or whatever. ManicHispanic Posted September 28, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 28, 2013 Can you use a room service tray?

Joie Posted September 28, 2013 Author #10 Share Posted September 28, 2013 keeping a room service tray would be a good idea.....never thought of that. it is very hard with kids....too many trips......what a pain. on the Dream last year we only had large plates which were ok for one person. still hard to get food and salad and drinks though. oh well we will figure out something.....small problem to both worrying about. Dare2Believe Posted September 28, 2013 #11 Share Posted September 28, 2013 When I read this, at first I was thinking, "Of course there's trays!" But then I thought back, and nope! No trays....not a big deal for us, but for kids I can see why you'd want them for sure. I like the idea of keeping a room service tray!
springs741 Posted September 28, 2013 #12 Share Posted September 28, 2013 I order room service breakfast the first morning and keep the tray and the coffee pot. For the rest of the week DH and I take turns running up to the Lido first thing in the morning and fill the pot and grab a few Danish. I know some will say just order room service, but we never know what time we will awake in the morning. I just place the tray and pot in the closet before we leave each day and of course leave it on the counter the last morning.
Joie Posted September 28, 2013 Author #13 Share Posted September 28, 2013 that's a very good idea. We generally have room service bring coffee but sometimes it's too early cuz we leave the tag on door night before. and our cabin is always on deck 8 aft....so it's a short run. ;)
JB3 Posted October 11, 2013 #14 Share Posted October 11, 2013 Why are cruise lines doing this? Just got back from a Celebrity S class ship that has two size of plates. For most meals this means at least two trips to get beverage, or whatever. I hated the trays, and felt they were gross. That's why the cruise lines have pretty much done away with them. Germs. They couldn't possibly wash and them fast enough, and they'd get reused. Just another effort to stop germs from spreading. That's also why they have the hand sanitizers when you enter the buffet. Wash your hands with hot water and soap on the cruises(and anywhere), and wash them often, and touch as little as you can! : )
Joie Posted October 11, 2013 Author #15 Share Posted October 11, 2013 I can see how there would be a germ problem...but not anymore than anywhere else on the buffet.....it is just very difficult with 2 children to get their plates, salad or fruit and drinks .... standing in line 3 times is a PAIN!!!! HO HO Posted October 11, 2013 #16 Share Posted October 11, 2013 No trays in June....huge plates, which created, IMHO, more food waste, as folks eyes are bigger than their stomachs, and filled the plates...leaving a lot of uneaten or partially eaten food on many. Buying some trays for the kids would be the best thing...and might spur CCL to follow suit...especially for the kids!
Joie Posted October 11, 2013 Author #17 Share Posted October 11, 2013 thank you....that may be a very good idea. I know that people will wait food no matter which way they go...but having trays for handicap cruisers or families seems to be a NO-brainer to me.
