G-Luvs2cruise Posted September 28, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2013 Has anyone done this excursion through Carnival recently? I have heard this is a really good way to go see the Falls with out being hassled to much. Wanting to know how true that is. Thanks, G

Rare Crew News Posted September 29, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 29, 2013 Has anyone done this excursion through Carnival recently? I have heard this is a really good way to go see the Falls with out being hassled to much. Wanting to know how true that is. Thanks, G All cruise lines drop you off at the entrance to the falls. From there, local guides take over. You are led by vendors areas both going and returning to the entrance parking lot. The vendors are merciless and insulting if you don't purchase something. Things are placed in your hands as free gifts and then when you walk away they accuse you of trying to steal the item. The local guides and authorities will not let you just walk around the vendor area. If you can tolerate the insults, then seeing the falls is OK. pe4all Posted October 1, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 1, 2013 We have done this excursion. The crew of Cool Runnings did a great job. They will "watch" your stuff when you get to Dunn's River. Music played the whole way, people dancing, etc. When we finished the climb, (the crew sets up the guides) the cat took us to a nearby "beach." It was okay - a bit grungy, with locals selling necklaces, etc, but not too much hassling you. You could get your hair braided there, get lunch, etc. Water was nice and warm when we went. The crew kind of begs for tips at the end, but they actually worked hard for them when we went.
dahlin43 Posted October 21, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 21, 2013 I'm looking into doing this excursion. Is the cost of Dunns River Falls included in the price of the CCL excursion? Thanks!
Paislee Posted October 22, 2013 #7 Share Posted October 22, 2013 I've done this excursion twice. Once while on a Carnival cruise and once while staying at an all-inclusive. I have enjoyed it both times. You sail on the catamaran to and from the falls, so you enter from the beach. This helps you avoid the majority of the vendors, so I never considered that a problem. There was snorkel stop before heading to the falls. After climbing the falls you get back on the boat and they break out the booze and the party gets going. Some things I recommend: - Take water shoes. You will have to rent them if you do not provide your own. - Bring a waterproof camera. The guides were happy to snap pictures for us with our camera along the way. - They sold a DVD video on the ship of your climb on the falls. It was about $30ish (can't remember for sure). They edited it while we sailed back and we took it with us. We purchased it and were happy we did...but it was our honeymoon, so YMMV.

Everything is included except tips, and food/souveneirs, etc., if you want something at the beach.
G-Luvs2cruise Posted October 25, 2013 Author #9 Share Posted October 25, 2013 Does the boat pull up right in shore or do you have to swim to shore? When you arrive at the falls.
Paislee Posted October 26, 2013 #10 Share Posted October 26, 2013 There is a small pier and the boat docks there. No need to swim to shore
