Guaranteed Stateroom

My wife and I took a 12 day cruise, on board Celebrity Equinox earlier this year, and were able to get in on a excellent deal. We paid for a discounted guranteed inside cabin and were upgraded to a balcony. Our cabin was on a deck that was between two cabin only decks. Never had any noise of any type. Not even from the hallways. Beautiful cruise and my wife loved it.

Now, we are planning another cruise later this year. However, I don't think we want to leave cabin selection to chance again as we are not people who are normally lucky. If we wish to make our own cabin selection, as opposed to a discounted guaranteed cabin, approximately how much more percentage wise would that cost us. In other words, if the discounted fare was $900 for an inside cabin how much more would it be if we wanted to pick our own cabin instead of leaving it up to the cruise line to make that choice? I know this is all hypothetical. But, there must be an established premium for cabins that are selected versus cabins that are assigned.

Thanks for your help.

Would it be best to look on the Celebrity website and do some test bookings of GTY and regular assigned rooms?

The price difference may be zero- as on our last GTY booking, and it may be great. It all depends on what you book, how the cruise is selling, and a number of variables. Obviously if you got a huge upgrade on your GTY, the price savings would be huge.

So, in summary, it varies. Possibly a lot. And isn't really predictable, other than the initial booking price.

We have booked a gty balcony twice with RCI and saved about 100.00 on our cabin. However. on both cruises we were able to change cabins " E 2 " in our same category, we ended up going from near the elevators on deck six to more mid ship on deck 8, not sure if it was luck or common practice and not sure if I will try it again. our online travel agent said it was because of being diamond. Would like to hear from others that have done this. Happy cruising,

We are looking at an HH category Oceanview Obstructed on HAL Veendam 17 days Hawaii in November. The Oceanview Obtructed is fine with us. However, it's on a deck that is right below all of the major activity. That HH category is only located on that one deck. I think I will check with HAL to see if the same cabin, a slightly different category, is available on one of the two decks below for the same or close to the same amount. Just don't want to get any cabin that is on the deck below major activity like the dining room, clubs, casino, etc.
