racnwdow Posted September 30, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 30, 2013 Are there any hotels that are within walking distance to a beach and not a far taxi ride (or free shuttle) to the port? We are on a pretty tight budget. So are looking for clean and safe. Not expensive. Would also prefer a free breakfast of some kind, walking distance to somewhere to buy juice and pop to take to ship and maybe free shuttle from airport. eandj Posted September 30, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 30, 2013 What date/s? If peak season, rates will be higher, obviously. Anything nearer the beach will be more expensive. What's your budget? Have you ressearched hotel rates for your dates? How many people? Bahia Mar is a moderate priced beach hotel. The farther you go from the beach and port the less expensive the hotel. If you go to Hyatt Pl North on valuetrips.com you won't be real far from the beach...hop a bus. And you will be right by the stores and restuarants you ask for. Free brkfst. Very close to port. Add some details and we can help further.
tokyotea Posted September 30, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 30, 2013 We just booked a room at the ES on 17th. It's right in front of a Publix. I believe you can catch a local trolly to the beach from that Publix and the hotel has an afternoon reception and a breakfast in the morning. :) http://embassysuites3.hilton.com/en/hotels/florida/embassy-suites-fort-lauderdale-17th-street-FLLSOES/index.html Hope this helps! racnwdow Posted September 30, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted September 30, 2013 We will be there Fri, jan 14. Was hoping for $130 or below. Just two of us.
eandj Posted September 30, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 30, 2013 Your date doesn't work...Jan 14 is not a friday. Are you talking Feb. 14? I tried researching for you....need the right date.:o Either way, you will need to look further from the port/beach for that rate. But give me the right date and I will research a couple discount sites for you.

capriccio Posted September 30, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 30, 2013 Sorry, jan 17. That's the beginning of the Martin Luther King day weekend -- a prime time in Fort Lauderdale. Good luck (and that's awfully nice of eandj to check sites for you :p).
eandj Posted September 30, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 30, 2013 Just glancing at hotwire and lmtclub, you will need to up your budget or be satisfied 5 or more miles away from the port/beach. As mentioned you are looking at a prime long weekend in Jan. To save money I would use Priceline or hotwire. Use betterbidding.com to help identify the hotels. I'd look to stay at a chain such as Springhill, comfort Inn and Suites, La quinta etc. But...with staying further out, you won't be near much. If you go too far out then your cab to the port will be $25 or so. So figure that into what you are saving on hotels further away.
BlueHerons Posted September 30, 2013 #9 Share Posted September 30, 2013 Sorry, jan 17. No way you'll get anything at all for that price that weekend. Up your budget AMD start shopping hotwire.
royalcruz Posted September 30, 2013 #10 Share Posted September 30, 2013 I don't know of anything in your price range for that date. You will have to use Priceline or Hotwire to get that price...check only the beach zone to get what you want. Beach hotels don't have free shuttles and very few have free breakfast (Alhambra and Best Western are the only ones I know of, unless you get a breakfast package). If you can get into Alhambra that is really your best bet...it is low priced, close to port, and is only 2 blocks from CVS for liquid shopping. j4farm Posted October 1, 2013 #11 Share Posted October 1, 2013 We will be on the IOS that same date! I have booked the Sleep Inn & Suites for $116 for that night. I found it through LMT. It has an airport shuttle, breakfast and shuttle to port. We stayed here a few years ago, was completely satisfied with the accomadations and the location. I have done some research and it says that Dania Beach is a mile away. There's a Walgreens next door and restaurants near by.
racnwdow Posted October 1, 2013 Author #12 Share Posted October 1, 2013 I am guessing that it was your message on roll call that I saw about the hotel. Made the reservation this afternoon. Got the $116 deal also. So thanks for the info. And will see you there.
royalcruz Posted October 1, 2013 #13 Share Posted October 1, 2013 Sleep Inn now charges a small fee for shuttle to the port. The beach is a little over a mile away, so I suppose it is walkable. Yellow cab phone number is 954-777-7777.
