ktinnc Posted October 1, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 1, 2013 I'm working on a cruise review/trip report. Got a lot written already and I have a TON of pics (over 2000). In the meantime, feel free to post any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. If you're anything like I was before our trip...any thread that had Valor in the title had me super excited :) What an amazing trip/itinerary!! ktinnc Posted October 1, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted October 1, 2013 Here's the answer to your questions... Did you do the cheers program and what did you think of it? Did you buy alcohol at the port and carry it on? We didn't do the cheers program because I don't drink much and my hubby has a few drinks but nothing major so it wouldn't have been very cost effective for us. We didn't buy any alcohol either but I know a lot of people that did and just carried it right on. And what time did you board? We checked out of our hotel at 12:10 (stayed in OSJ), got a taxi, rode to the port, checked in and were in our cabin by like 12:35!) And did you do the Dutch and French island excursion in st Maarten? We are doing it and I can't find a review!! We did Bernard's Tour in St Maarten and saw both sides of the island. It was one of our favorite days...amaaazing!! Can't wait to see your pics and review! Hurry!! Haha - I'll do my best..I wrote a good bit of it when we were on the ship - wrote a little daily. But I have sooo many pics and i go back to work tomorrow and it's my busy time of year. hoping to get at least one little bit posted today! :)
Katemusical Posted October 1, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 1, 2013 Hi! Im so excited to read your review. Xmas on the Valor is coming quickly!! Did they get rid of the sushi bar on the ship? Also, did you have an assigned dining time or go when you wanted (can't remember what that's called)? Thanks in advance for the review!

picaflores Posted October 1, 2013 #9 Share Posted October 1, 2013 Hi! Im so excited to read your review. Xmas on the Valor is coming quickly!! Did they get rid of the sushi bar on the ship? Also, did you have an assigned dining time or go when you wanted (can't remember what that's called)? Thanks in advance for the review! We were told that they closed the sushi bar about 7 months ago (we cruised September 15th), it is now the Taste Bar...

jer630 Posted October 2, 2013 #14 Share Posted October 2, 2013 We just got off this same cruise as well. The itinerary certainly keeps you busy. We did non-Carnival excursions in St. Thomas and St. Maarten, and just kind of winged it with walking or taxis everywhere else. This worked fine for us everywhere except St. Kitts - not impressed and did not have a good experience there. It seems the people who enjoyed the day there simply went to the beach. All in all, we had another great cruise.

Nonna50 Posted October 2, 2013 #17 Share Posted October 2, 2013 I can't wait to read your review. We were on the Valor in April and LOVED it. My favorite itinerary. Every time I see a Valor review I have to read it. I love re-living it. We won't be doing it again until 2015 so until then I will just have to live vicariously thru all the reviews. Can't wait to read yours and see all the great pics. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Forums mobile app
pghsteelerfan Posted October 2, 2013 #18 Share Posted October 2, 2013 I'm signed up and looking forward to it. I love reviews from ships/itineraries we've done to relive our cruises. I took over 2000 pictures on our cruise too - but that is so easy to do on this itinerary. :) So glad you had a good time.
cincycruisincouple Posted October 2, 2013 #19 Share Posted October 2, 2013 I do have a question/request...can you hurry the review along? We leave for San Juan in 16 days and would love one last review with all the pics :) Seriously though, glad you had a good trip!
ktinnc Posted October 2, 2013 Author #20 Share Posted October 2, 2013 Some more questions answered.... Hi! Im so excited to read your review. Xmas on the Valor is coming quickly!! Oooh that'll be fun!! Did they get rid of the sushi bar on the ship? They have the "taste bar" now.... Also, did you have an assigned dining time or go when you wanted (can't remember what that's called)? We had the 6pm assigned time. In the past that has always worked perfect for us.We like meeting new people, having the same staff and even the time worked because we liked going to the shows in the evening. This cruise we went to the dining room the first 2 nights and it was enjoyable enough but our wait staff weren't super outgoing or anything and our table was kind of quiet so we ended up just doing the lido the rest of the week. Granted..the food in MDR is better (i think) but we were so tired when we would get back from our excursions at around 4/4:30 that we wanted time to rest before getting dinner/shows. So 6pm was too early. All that to say if I were to do this one again I'd either pick the late dining or just do the Your time dining. Thanks in advance for the review! ktinnc Posted October 2, 2013 Author #21 Share Posted October 2, 2013 Hey all! I had big plans to get the review started yesterday (and answer everyone's questions on here) but we ended up having a family emergency yesterday and back to work today...sooo... I'll get back on here later tonight to at least answer questions (and hopefully get at least a part of the review posted). Here's a teaser pic from our snorkeling with the sea turtles in Barbados! :)

ktinnc Posted October 2, 2013 Author #23 Share Posted October 2, 2013 Here ya goooo :) I have 19 days to go until i get to go on the Valor :D I'm a wee bit jealous you still have your trip to look forward to. I'm starting to go into post cruise depression..lol.my questions are  Looking for good local food. Did you do any eating off ship where, and what? We did eat off the ship but most of our excursions included lunch...so we ate what they served. We did go to Barrachinas in Old San Juan the first night and hubby had mofongo - quite good. And then another night we actually went out for pizza - I thought that seemed kinda wrong to get pizza in san juan (haha) but it was good and ranked 16th on trip advisor out of like 400 restaurants - it was called Pirilo Pizza Rustica What did you do in Barbados? looking for adventerous things to do or places to go? We went on the most amazing catamaran cruise and went swimming/snorkeling with sea turtles and then over a couple of shipwrecks. It was a full day of pampering by the crew...lots of drinks, yummy lunch etc. We used silvermoon..perfection!

This worked fine for us everywhere except St. Kitts - not impressed and did not have a good experience there. It seems the people who enjoyed the day there simply went to the beach. All in all, we had another great cruise. We were so blessed with such gorgeous weather the whole time! We did excursions in every port since it was our first time going and we just do better with a plan :) We went on a tour with Royston tours in St Kittts which was a lot of fun and we got to see a lot of their gorgeous island!
