Live from the Legend 6/30 - 7/8

Sorry for posting so late, I will be doing a full review after we return. Internet on board has been very sketchy and very slow. Must be because of the weather. I will try to log in sometime this evening if anyone has any questions. For those of you leaving tomorrow, be prepared for a wonderful vacation. 8 days go by very fast. Service ship wide has been nothing but excellent. Weather has been hit and miss but always had some sun every day.

Just remembering from prior questions - Yes slide has been open, entertainment slow for first few days, but really picked up from there - Do not miss the Take 2 show. Food very typical for Carnival. Never found chair saving to be a major problem at all.

Thats all for now, I will be glad to answer any questions.

COOL! Looking forward to a follow up!

Was looking south crossing the GWB today and saw a Carnival ship. At first I thought it was the Legend, but then realized it was the Triumph.

Hey thanks for dropping in 'live" and letting us know how things are going. The Legend was one of our favorite ships. I also remember how fast the 8 days went. Enjoy the rest of the cruise.

I am interested in what you did in the ports of call.

Any chance you saw Coki Beach in St. Thomas? If so, how was it? What did you do in the other two.?

Can't wait to read all the deals. Enjoy the rest of the cruise

mkmbfm - I will ask other people about Coki beach for you. In St thomas we took a private sailboat called the nightwind which was the highlight of our cruise, in Tortola we went to cane beach which was beautiful, PR was a complete waste due to us getting in late plus it was a Sunday. More on the islands in my review.

MrPete, Im actually surprised we were not back yet. I cannot believe how fast this captain is moving the ship. We hit 26kts at one point. I dont think I have ever been on a cruise ship that fast. He is keeping us ahead of rough water though. Going down was bad. The dining room was clearly missing people on the first 2 nights.

I will write after we return!!

Thanks for taking the time to write! I am looking forward to your review when you return...as you can see, i will be sailing on the Legend in October (as a matter of fact i made my final payment today!).

I would be interested to know what your thoughts are on the the differences between your cruises on Voyager and Legend....I actually just returned from VOS. Anything you think i should know?

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Funduo -- Glad to see that you enjoyed the Nightwind -- I had given you my family's experience while we were on her in April; I had indicated that it was the highlight of our cruise and I see that you said the same thing! Glad you had a great time -- we are still think about that trip on every cold, wet, Seattle day!

I can answer two of the recent questions...

1) Coki Beach was gorgeous on the 6/22 sailing. We had been there once before and wanted to try a different beach. Godfrey told us that the water was so clear that you could see a pin drop all the way to the bottom. He didn't exaggerate. The water was super clear and there were a ton of fish. There were a lot of people on the beach, but it was not packed. Beautiful beach in my eyes and for inexperienced snorkelers it is perfect. That can walk right in and snorkel without dealing with rocks or deep water.

2) Comparing the Voyager and the Legend...don't expect a similar experience and you will be pleased. The Voyager is a bigger ship with more to do. It had a different atmosphere for us as well, but we didn't sail her out of NYC, so that may not apply. I preferred the Voyager, but still loved the Legend. I think the pluses for Voyager would be the breakfast buffet, activities, variety of food in the dining room, Promenade, and atmosphere. Pluses for Legend would be the pizza, shows (far outshone RCI--Take II was incredible), entertainment in the dining room, and lunch buffet. The service was equal in my eyes. We did not find the embarkation in NYC to be as bad as we expected, but disembarking was not so great. Bayonne may be better. We found the porters to be very friendly and helpful and never felt as though they were shaking us down for tips. I think it just depends on who you get.

Go, expect a different experience and you will have a blast! Enjoy the Legend!!!

We have arrived back (boo hoo). I really hope the sailing leaving today has a good trip, I cannot imagine what we left behind weatherwise. I will be happy to answer any question before my review.

Peggysue - You were right. The sailboat was great, Steve was wonderful and never made fun of us even though we were such novices.

Moonmom - We have in the past done VOS out of NJ. Tamhugh is right on. Dont expect the same experience and you will have a great time. I agree with everything Tamhugh said plus I will add on the VOS you had 24 hr hot tub which is wonderful, and you could order from the dining room and have room service deliver to eat on your deck. Carnival does not do that. Also depending on the age of your kids, the nightclub venue is quite different. On Carnival the club is open later. Then again, Carnival pizza is the best on the seas. I will go into that more later but the bottom line is I would sail either again in a heartbeat.

Hope your descent into reality isn't too painful for you.........

Of course once you get settled in we're all looking forward to your review!

I am definitely expecting a different experience this time, not only because of the ships and the ports, but this time i will be going solo....i would be interested to hear if you have any feedback on Carnival run excursions - i'm thinking that i'd feel more confident doing that than booking something privately on my own...

Thanks!

We'll be sailing the Legend in September. Does the whole ship have the new "sleep system" bedding, or just selected cabins? We'll be aft on the Upper deck. I usually don't have trouble sleeping -- could sleep on a bumpy road -- but my husband is fussier. We sailed the Legend two years ago, but went to alternate ports. Hope to get to the ones published on the itinerary this time!

I hear they implimented the gold card system on the Legend this month. We got the gold card back in May, but had not "installed" the new whatever it is. Have they started something new?

Welcome back, Funduo!! Thanks for taking the time to write. We will be on the Legend leaving on July 16th and can not wait. I'd LOVE to read your full review(hint hint) before we leave. Of course, realizing that you might actually have to work or something, any other reflections, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Mrpete...what is the gold card system??

We are booked on the cruise that goes to Panama, Belize and Costa Rica in January 2006. We booked category 8A on the Main deck, aft, port side and wanted to know if anyone had been in that section before and what they thought about it. Also, do the balcony cabins have refrigerators? The description of the cabins sounds like they do on Cruise Critic but I can't find on the Carnival website that they do.

Thanks for any input. :)

I had no idea the gold card was a system. Carnival never mentions anything about the gold card. We did have it and other than color it presented with no other special charms or gifts.

Jasmine, We had a great balcony, room 7258 - check out the balcony size on the brochure, it was the size of 3 balcony's. If that room or the ones above or below it are available and similar in price, you might want to consider it - and yes there was a stocked refridgerator.

Freckles - Just give me a day or 2, I promise. A couple of tips - If Christopher Alan Graves is on board with his production of Singin With The Big Band, he was fantastic. Also excellent is the production "Take 2" Do not miss either of them.

WennFred - We never got to meet them, I hope they enjoyed their first cruise. Ask them if they say the talent show and what they thought of the first girl singing the National Anthem. The rudeness is something the tri-state people are unfortunitly, somewhat used to. I can certainly understand someone from another area feeling this way, and it is the one major reason we (from NJ and not part of that NY genre) always think twice before sailing from NY. Fortunitly, for the most part, cruisers are still a nice bunch and you just ignore the rude ones.

Cruzon - I believe the entire ship has the new sleep system and I will tell you the comforter is great but some of the new mattresses are very stiff. We needed a "sponge topping" for after the first 2 days we could not move.

Anything else, please ask!!

Hey - I have been on the Legend and the VOS - I liked the Carnival ship better for a variety of reasons. There's as much to do - do we really need miniature golf and a rock wall and 3400 people on a ship ?!!?

I am back on the Legend 7/24 - just my 2 cents...

I had written Carnival last year, regarding embarassment and frustration when friends and family ask what I get in return from Carnival for sailing them so much.

I got an email from Uncle Bob himself, telling me they were launching a new program at the end of last year, and to let him know what I thought of it when I sailed on the Legend in 2005.

So, when the latest Currents came out, and saw it was something like return guests with 5 cruises got a gold card, and 5+ got a platinum card, I figured let's see what it does. First thing I noticed was that they aren't even ready with the platinum card; that all returning guests just get a gold card.

The other thing I noticed was that it didn't seem to be doing anything, other than opening my door and adding mysterious charges to my S&S.

So, I wrote back, telling him my feedback (also telling him that if it was getting me great service, it was still there), which was answered with an apology, that the program wasn't being put on the Legend until July.

Hence, looking for feedback (and also a cup of coffee this morning.....)

Interesting, Pete. We had a gold card too, and oddly enough, the same things happened to us! Lots of charges! We got one "welcome back" on our first night in the dining room. That was it. It'll be interesting to see what the actual "program" is. I thought that was it.

Funduo-Thanks for the posts. I miss that ship so much. Such a great week.

mkmbfm- I will second Coki Beach for you. The water there is amazing! The beach was beautiful. Great time. I was sad that we were only there for a couple of hours. It's beautiful.

Because they were newly married and it was their first cruise they were abit shy and wanted to just stay by themselves this time around, I will ask them about the first girl that song the National Anthem, was she related to you?

As for did they enjoy their first cruise, they will be booking another one soon, best time compare to any other type of vacation. Oh last thing, they were upgraded from a 4c inside to a 8h with balcony, Awesome way to start their first cruise.

Remember Mike and I grew up in Brooklyn and still have lots of family there, He stated he would never sail out of N.Y.C again. I told him Miami and other ports will have a diverse mix of people, and the experiance will be much better.
