jamin jul Posted October 4, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 4, 2013 I booked the walking tour in St.john STG3 on RC Oasis of the seas nov.16 sailing. I received an email from RC today that excursion cancelled. I hope beaches are open by then. Looks like we will be going to St.John on our own. thegima Posted October 5, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 5, 2013 If the government shutdown is still in effect there isn't much to do on St. John that isn't part of the National Park. I'm going next week and pretty much given up on St. John this time around. Hopefully it's resolved next month when you go.
khm1 Posted October 5, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 5, 2013 I booked the walking tour in St.john STG3 on RC Oasis of the seas nov.16 sailing. I received an email from RC today that excursion cancelled. I hope beaches are open by then. Looks like we will be going to St.John on our own. Go check available excursions in your reservation online and look for "Self Explore St. John" ST03. I sail on 11/9 and got a cancellation email today. I booked the above tour for $34 pp. Good deal! Here is the description: Enjoy a scenic narrated roundtrip ferry ride along St. Thomas' picturesque southcoast, passing beaches, coves, hotels & luxury villas from ship pierside to Cruz Bay. Once in St. John and armed with your Island information package, enjoy a minimum of 4.5 hours of personal leisure time to explore this beautiful emerald isle. St. John is 2/3rds National Park with many glistening white sandy beaches to choose from along with historical sites. The famous Trunk Bay is where you can hire snorkel equipment and enjoy the snorkel trail. Cinnamon Bay beach is a more private location with its historical "Arawak" archaelogical site. Hawksnest Beach was a flim location - so many options! Taxis are readily available for island tours- visit Annaberg Ruins and you'll still have time to swim, relax on one of our beaches, before heading to Cruz Bay. In Cruz Bay take time to browse around the many boutique and custom stores specializing in local products. There are also many restaurants to choose from American, Spanish and local cusine... with over 4 hours in St. John it is limitless! On the return trip you will be offered a cool refreshing fruit or rum punch drink before arriving back to the ship.
Cruising to Retirement Posted October 5, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 5, 2013 If the government shutdown is still in effect there isn't much to do on St. John that isn't part of the National Park. I'm going next week and pretty much given up on St. John this time around. Hopefully it's resolved next month when you go. Same here, on the Allure for 10/13. I did not get a cancellation email yet?? But planning on a different Beach in st. Thomas... probably Coki or Sapphire via taxi...
O2B@Cagain Posted October 5, 2013 #7 Share Posted October 5, 2013 If the shutdown is still in effect, will your ship be able to dock there? Jack: The Oasis docks at Crown Bay on St Thomas. The federal lands are mostly on St John. Ships will dock without a bit of difficulty. :)
jamin jul Posted October 6, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted October 6, 2013 Thanks KHMI for the info. When we booked the excursion we were unsure of doing the excursion or just going on our own. The excursion seemed so easy. Anyway- I think we may just wait and see what happens. We have a good month and hopefully things will be back to normal by then. Have a great cruise! I feel really bad for those people counting on our spending at St.John!! Resturants, bars, taxi cabs, shops, ect!!
gdpups Posted October 7, 2013 #9 Share Posted October 7, 2013 I don't think it has anything to do with the gov shutdown, those tours were cancelled on our mid-November cruise but were replaced by other St. John excursions.

The other ones that you all previously signed up for were essentially a ferry ride, with a few minutes pointing you in the direction of the shopping and historic sights....it was not areal "tour" and it left a lot of time to do your own thing. most people were just using it it to do their own thing, so I think RCCL/Celebrity decided to save money and cut our the small guided portion..... cflower04 Posted October 7, 2013 #11 Share Posted October 7, 2013 Our excursion to St John was cancelled as well but I don't see the new tour on my cruise planner! Hmmm... cruise isn't until March so hopefully they will have things sorted by then.
jamin jul Posted October 8, 2013 Author #12 Share Posted October 8, 2013 I do have this "Self Explore St. John" ST03 excursion on our Oasis sailing nov. 16th now. It is cheaper like others have posted and is the same. Thinking about rebooking. It makes going to St.John easy. I have read old posts about ferry being crowded- I think it would be crowded either the excursion or public ferry.Everyone takes turns getting off so not a problem for me. But- alot of comments about time change and not enough daytime for beaches. I think we leave at 1115-1215 St.t time. Get there 1pm ish St.t time. I think that gives plenty of time for beach. :rolleyes:I guess it could be dark or getting dark on way back?
