rm1247 Posted October 5, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 5, 2013 I'm researching the 7 night Fjords cruise on Legend, from Hamburg, Germany, next Aug 31, 2014 and would like an estimate on round trip airfare from the US east coast (Newark, Philly, or Dulles). It's too far out now to get a good quote, and I haven't purchased round trip airfare to Europe in the past 10 years. We would just do coach and might use Choice Air. Can anyone provide me with an estimate? Thanks!
Rare LHT28 Posted October 5, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 5, 2013 Looking at current fare on ITA http://matrix.itasoftware.com/search.htm You are probably looking at $1000 pp depending on airlines, how many connections etc.. You could watch for seat sales I use Yapta to track the flights I want & when the price goes down to a price I can live with I book it
hallasm Posted October 5, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 5, 2013 Hamburg is not the easiest accessible city by air from US - an alternative might be to join the Legend cruise from Oslo rather than Hamburg (one day later than Hamburg) - might be cheaper to fly into Oslo. An alternative might be flight to Berlin or Frankfurt and then train to Hamburg.
NeoVega Posted October 7, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 7, 2013 I find SKYSCANNER.COM is helpful for checking flight prices and finding good deals, checking alternate airports etc. If you have the time, you should consider adding to our vacation flying into another city for a day or two and then getting to Hamburg via train, ferry or one of the low cost airlines like RYAN AIR which may not show on many search engines. Check flights through Iceland especially if you want to add a day in another interesting location.
Desdichado62 Posted October 7, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 7, 2013 Easy Jet flies to Hamburg from London Gatwick and from London Luton. Like it has been suggested already you could always fly with Icelandair from either JFK, Newark or DC. via Reykjavik to Gatwick or Directly to Hamburg. More expensive options would be to connect at Heathrow from where Germanwings, British Airways and Lufthansa have flights to Hamburg.
Danish viking Posted October 7, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 7, 2013 Try SAS, they fly daily from Newark (someday 2 departures per day) and Dulles to Copenhagen. From Copenhagen there are 3-4 departures each day to Hamburg.
Desdichado62 Posted October 7, 2013 #7 Share Posted October 7, 2013 Try SAS, they fly daily from Newark (someday 2 departures per day) and Dulles to Copenhagen. From Copenhagen there are 3-4 departures each day to Hamburg. There are many cities in Europe that rm1247 could connect at to get to Hamburg. Some of the options: Newark/JFK with either SAS, Delta, or Norwegian to Arlanda and there change to flights to Hamburg flown by either Germanwings, SAS or Lufthansa Amsterdam: Delta, KLM or united from New York to Amsterdam Delta, KLM, Lufthansa, United and US airways from Washington US Airways from Philadelphia. Then from Amsterdam to Hamburg with Lufthansa or KLM. Frankfurt: Lufthansa or Delta from JFK Lufthansa or United Airlines from Newark Lufthansa or US Airways from PHL Lufthansa or United Airlines from Dulles. From FRA to Hamburg with Lufthansa. Danish viking Posted October 8, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 8, 2013 I didn't say that Copenhagen was the only option, it was only a suggestion but typical Swedish big brother attitude.
