C&Sun Posted October 5, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 5, 2013 My travel agent just advised me I need a visa to visit Egypt and Turkey. Does anyone know the procedure to get them? my agent did not know. The 28th sailing of the Prisendam to the Holy Lands does not go to Egypt. Those two ports were cancelled in July. I do not know what country you live however if you are US citizen you will not need visa for the two Israeli ports.
Rare kazu Posted October 5, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 5, 2013 My travel agent just advised me I need a visa to visit Egypt and Turkey. Does anyone know the procedure to get them? my agent did not know. Assuming your are Canadian (you live in Ontario) you do need a visa for Turkey under certain circumstances but it is very easy to get. There is an 'e visa' for tourism. Here is the link to the web page http://ottava.be.mfa.gov.tr/ShowInfoNotes.aspx?ID=121781 Note - those coming by cruise ship are exempt for up to 72 hours. I put the website there so you can see the info. So, you should be fine. Hope this helps!
Krazy Kruizers Posted October 5, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 5, 2013 One thing that always worries me is when a TA tell you that you need a visa, etc., but then they know how you should apply for one. That bugs me and I read it too often on these boards.
YXU AC*SE Posted October 6, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 6, 2013 A few questions ... (1) Are you / your travelling companion Canadian citizens? (2) Does your cruise originate in Turkey (I don't think so)? As previously mentioned, Egypt has been cancelled w/ Port Said and Alexandria, Egypt, replaced by Rhodes, Greece, and Katakolon (Olympia), Greece respectively. (and regardless, the visa is issued upon arrival by visa stamp in your passport) As Kazu mentioned, for transit stops in Turkey via cruise ship, no visa is required. http://ottava.be.mfa.gov.tr/ShowInfoNotes.aspx?ID=121781 For cruise passengers: Those cruise passengers coming to a Turkish port of call by a cruise ship and thereafter leave Turkey by the same cruise ship for another country, are exempt from visa for a maximum period of 72 hours (with the permission given by the local security authorities). whogo Posted October 6, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 6, 2013 It is mildly worrying that your travel agent does not know the visa requirements, although a sensible traveler verifies for himself. It is more worrying that your travel agent thinks your cruise is still going to Egypt. Have you checked your booking with Holland America to see that you are paid in full? Have you checked in online? dwightyoa Posted October 6, 2013 Author #10 Share Posted October 6, 2013 Thankyou Scott. The cruise leaves from Athens Oct 28 arriving in Ft Lauderdale Nov 26 on the Prisendam. My husband is Canadian and I am British Subject with landed immigrant/permanent residence card and living in Canada since 1957. I will check the website you provided. bcscot Posted October 6, 2013 #11 Share Posted October 6, 2013 I don't think that you need to worry about visas for this trip. You are only visiting Turkey as ports of call, along the way. We were there last year and had no problems. Even if you were going to Egypt (which you are not), they arrange for the visas on board the ship. I am a British Citizen and a Canadian Citizen (dual nationality), but it seems, not a British Subject. You may not be one either. The terminology is complex and has changed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_subject
USN59-79 Posted October 6, 2013 #12 Share Posted October 6, 2013 I suggest that you check out the roll call for that cruise. You will be able to communicate with some of us that are on that cruise and see some options for shore excursions that are being arranged.

I spoke to TA and with regards to the Egypt port, she had looked at the itinerary for same cruise in 2014 in error which presently goes to Egypt. Since I prefer the 2014 cruise ports, I have cancelled this one, got my full refund and am doing my own booking on Panama cruise for now. Thankyou to everyone to responded to my questions and have a great cruise :)
