iscreamer1 Posted October 6, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2013 I am a big water drinker, it's ALMOST all I drink. I won't let them gouge me with the bottled water package. Should I bring a case on board with me (will they let me) or is the ships water good enough to drink? Thanks

CRUSINGFAMILY Posted October 6, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 6, 2013 Yes I am a huge water drinker and have never had any problems always get room stuart to leave lots of ice in cabin and usually keep a one or two litre bottle sitting in a bucket of ice so i aways have water in the cabin. and the drink stations have ice and water available 24/7. The only thing they dont want you doing is refilling personal water bottles at the station so there is no contamination from your bottle to the rest of the guests who are getting drinks at the stations. They want you to take a couple of glasses and fill your bottle away from the station. Have a wonderful cruise Brian J
saurian Posted October 6, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 6, 2013 My husband nearly exclusively drinks water. All he drinks ever is water and coffee. At home he drinks water out of the tap or filtered by the fridge filter. We live in a very rural midwest town with a surface water supply and water that passes the EPA standards every year, through sometimes just barely on sediment levels. We find the water on board to be better than our tap water at home. no funny tastes or smells, and no sediment in the glass. We do not have any need to bottled water. I have heard people say you can put a luggage tag on a case of unopened bottled water, and, depending on the port, it will be delivered with your luggage. To us, who fly, this is simply not possible or practical. The water on board is very safe to drink (safer than the water on shore at the ports!) Think of it this way: People from all over the country and many international passengers as well, are on board, and safe to say, all of them have ship made ice in their beverages. I have never heard of people getting sick drinking iced beverages (like many do when traveling abroad) and I have not ever seen a complaint on the CC boards about the ice making the beverage taste funny. Also, all the coffee, tea, soda fountain, and free juices are all made with the water, and again, no illnesses or funny tasting beverages (aside from occasionally being watered down!) The same water is used to make the food and do the cleaning, which has to pass some pass some pretty tough inspections in US ports, and many others nations rules. Again, no water-caused funny tasting food, or improperly cleaned dishes. I have not heard of inspections declaring the water unfit to drink, usually the issue is with food or food/garbage storage in the water storage/creation/maintenance areas. I am reasonable certain that passenger ship water is inspected more often than many smaller cities and towns (we are inspected once a year in the spring). I hope this helps! Thanks Bring a empty water bottle and just refill from the tap in the bathroom or just ask on of the dining room stewards/bar tenders to refill it for you. reedl Posted October 6, 2013 #7 Share Posted October 6, 2013 Will they leave me pitchers of it in my cabin? I have some news for you. There is this device in the bathroom of your cabin called a faucet from which fresh filtered water comes out of for Free. Just get ice from your cabin steward and get the water from the faucet. It always amazes me that people seem to think that water that has been sitting in a bottle for months on end is better than water that is freshly filtered. In fact in Boston, blind taste tests have shown that tap water tastes better than bottled water anyways. Whenever I eat out, I usually drink four to five glasses of great Boston water and enjoy it always.
teajak Posted October 6, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 6, 2013 Will they leave me pitchers of it in my cabin? You fill whatever you want from the BR tap. Bring an insulated cup or an empty water bottle to refill. No need for a pitcher when the BR tap is so close.
Rare Lionesss Posted October 6, 2013 #9 Share Posted October 6, 2013 Also we have seen cases of water with cabin tags on them in the luggage bins, and in addition to the water we have seen cases of soda.....diet coke and mountain dew. So you could also take a case of water if you like. Sea Ya
LindaO Posted October 6, 2013 #10 Share Posted October 6, 2013 Water on board is either brought on board at the port of debarkation and filtered... or made through reverse osmosis. Either way the water is, most likely, cleaner than the water at your home (the deliver system is completely sealed... unlike most older homes). It has no taste and is perfectly safe and good to drink! It is cleaner or as clean as that bottled water... with no bottles to throw away! Enjoy... bring a big cup and drink all the water you would like!

spookwife Posted October 6, 2013 #12 Share Posted October 6, 2013 Will they leave me pitchers of it in my cabin? you'd have to ask the cabin steward but really, what's the need? I use the melt from the ice bucket if I need it to be cold.

Should I bring a case on board with me (will they let me) or is the ships water good enough to drink? Thanks We have no problem driniking the ship's water. I have a problem with drinking too much of the ship's water. Apparently, the desalinated water has more sodium in it than I am used to. By the 3rd day of our cruises, my feet and hands swell. I now bring bottled water and drink as much of it as possible versus the ship's water. I guess it just depends on how sensitive each person's body is to sodium? Debinnova Posted October 6, 2013 #14 Share Posted October 6, 2013 I just got off of Brilliance. Because all I drink is water really, we had a large 8 pack of water bottles in a duffle and tagged with our cabin tag and it showed up with our other luggage. I know that others say the water is fine on ship, and I certainly drink the iced tea which is made from that same water, but for some reason, I feel more comfortable drinking the bottled water. I don't know if it is because the water is sometimes processed/filtered on the ship - but it is just the way I feel. So, I think you can bring on your own water - at least most times; and the water from the tap is fine as well. Debbie

The problem isn't the sodium in the water but the extra salt they add to the food for taste . The ship water is distilled . Distillation or desalination doesn't allow any thing but water to get thru. Most ship ships now use extra engine heat to produce water . No impurities from the sea water can get thru the process. Question why do you think they would want to add salt to drinking water? LMaxwell Posted October 6, 2013 #17 Share Posted October 6, 2013 I'd put ships water against ANY municipal water, ahead of well water, and ahead of bottled water (most bottled water bottles are NOT BPA free). If you prefer to bring a case, go ahead, slap a luggage tag on it and it will be delivered to your room. At least a case on land will only cost you about $4 versus the astronomical, unconscionable shipboard rates.

Try to bring it on if it works great! If not you're out $3.99. Then you'll spend $47 for a 12 pac of liter bottles like I do.... Thirsty are we!!! Rare broberts Posted October 6, 2013 #21 Share Posted October 6, 2013 Filling a bottle directly from the bathroom sink is not easy as the sink is quite shallow. After a few seconds the water usually turns warm. I generally bring aboard a few small bottles of water that I refill and put in the fridge/cooler or ice as needed. I have the same issue and there are other threads from people who also swell from the water. I have done the same as you and drank only bottled water and did not have issues. No diet change makes a difference as I have tried that on the past. If I drink bottled spring water instead of the ships water, I am fine. Stick with what you know works for you and ignore the naysayers.
danielsumner Posted October 6, 2013 #23 Share Posted October 6, 2013 We used to do the bottle water routine. Brought from home and bought on the ship. We then got smart and bought a small Brita water pitcher, worked like a charm and we refilled our water bottles. Now I buy the Brita Bottles with a filter. Fill the bottles and drink all you want. Here's a link to what they look like. http://img1.targetimg1.com/wcsstore/TargetSAS//img/p/14/06/14063615.jpg

The condensation from the boiling process is then collected, filtered, and forced thought the reverse osmosis system? Not sure if it's still done this way, but was told that the sea water was definitely boiled and evaporated in the process. Any other detailed info?
