Dolfan2681 Posted October 7, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 7, 2013 We are booked on our Honeymoon cruise a 7 day Alaskan on the Miracle (can't wait). Just wondering if we can get some feedback on a good hotel near the port, and within walking distance of stuff to do that is reasonably priced. :D:o:)
Tapi Posted October 7, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 7, 2013 We stayed at the Westin downtown. Great hotel an wonderful location. We walked to the Space Needle as well as Pike's Place Market. We also walked to Target (when the airline lost one of our bags and we needed to buy emergency clothes :o). When we were ready to go to the port, the concierge hailed a taxi for us. Cost was $15 (total, not per person). If you are staying in one of the higher floors facing the bay, you will see your ship sailing in, early in the morning. :D If you're sailing from Pier 91 (that's where we sailed from), there are no hotels or attractions nearby, but the cab ride from a downtown hotel will be 10-15 minutes. BlueEyesMI Posted October 7, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 7, 2013 We stayed at the W, which I thought was a great hotel. They had a car service during the day that would drop you off for free within 15 minute radius (so not to the port, but to Pike Place, Space Needle, etc.). Super comfortable beds, great rooms, wonderful service. Also I picked up flowers for our rooms at Pike Place for $5 - they were a big hit!
lovesublime Posted October 7, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 7, 2013 We have stayed at the Seattle Marriott Waterfront which is almost directly across the street from Pier 66. It is totally walkable from pier to hotel and is walkable to lots of attractions including Pike Place. The space needle and other nearby attractions and downtown are also walkable if you don't mind walking up and downhill for an hour or so. I don't know if Carnival uses Pier 66 though. It's a very nice hotel with several in house restaurants and numerous local nearby restaurants plus the waterfront boardwalk is directly out front. Nice place, not cheap. Just a suggestion. springs741 Posted October 7, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 7, 2013 Carnival uses pier 91 and there is nothing around there to see or places to stay. I agree with the Weston or Marriot Waterfront. Both are within walking distance to attractions such as the Market and easy to get to the monorail to go to the Needle. Take comfortable shoe and allow yourself extra time. Those hills are killer! BettyCruiser Posted October 7, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 7, 2013 My favorite Seattle hotel is the Sheraton, it's 6 blocks down Pike street from the market. I couldn't find the Sheraton for a good price for our last trip to Seattle so I used Hotwire and got the Roosevelt Hotel. It was also a nice hotel, but in an older building so the rooms were smaller. The Roosevelt was 7 blocks down Pine street from the market.
crusinpsychRN Posted October 7, 2013 #7 Share Posted October 7, 2013 I'd say stay close to Pike's and those attractions. There are shuttles for $7 if you look around on line, may be more from Pike's area. Very prompt. Cabs were $50.
Joy2Day Posted October 7, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 7, 2013 We just got back from Seattle (not a cruise this trip). We stayed at the Warwick which is located near the Westin and Westlake Center. It is within walking distance of the light rail (even with roller bags). Mayflower Park Hotel is right at the Westlake Center, so it is even closer to light rail. On 4th Ave, try Dahlia's Bakery for yummy cookies and pastries!

We walked everywhere from here. It is doable. We even walked from the pier 66 rolling our luggage. After you take the elevator up it really is not that bad. Lol. Northern Aurora Posted October 8, 2013 #10 Share Posted October 8, 2013 Our current favorite Seattle hotel is the Mayflower Park. The location is fantastic as it is within easy walking distance to Pike Place Market, the Seattle Art Museum and Benaroya Hall. It is right beside Westlake Center, which has a light rail station and also one of the Monorail terminals. Also, the entire hotel is non-smoking. We walked to the Space Needle, and the Pike Place Market. There's not much else around there. There was a convenience store next door for buying our water and soda. It was very nice, and had a shuttle to the pier. We stayed at the Sheraton on the next Alaska cruise, and really loved it. Within walking distance of everything, and we used the tram to get to the Space Needle. Took a shuttle to pier. Would not hesitate to stay at either one again. Enjoy your cruise, and congratulations on your wedding!! Alaska is AMAZING!!! Love it!!

Hi, I saw that you had been on an Alaskan cruise, just curious if you had any tips/advice for excursions or must sees? I'm going on an Alaskan Cruise and would like to do excursions on my own, looking for any advice......? Thanks in advance!
BlueEyesMI Posted October 30, 2013 #13 Share Posted October 30, 2013 Our most favorite (and least expensive) excursion was in Skagway. We rented a car from Avis and spent the day driving up (and back) into the Yukon and to Emerald Lade. The weather was *fantastic* that day, and it was like driving through a postcard. We stopped at the big suspension bridge, and at Carcross to see the huskies. We had the car to ourselves (or could have shared if we'd chosen to), so it was nice to be alone and to be spontaneous - we pulled over at most picture ops. Book your car early, they were sold out weeks before!

I'm going on an Alaskan Cruise and would like to do excursions on my own, looking for any advice......? Thanks in advance! Go to the Alaska forum and at the top of the page you'll see a STICKY called "2013 Alaska Cruise Review List". In reply #45 all the trip reports are sorted by cruiseline ..... therre are lots of cruises ( NB, SB, RT) plus cruisetours and DIY land trips. Most reports provide info on excursions, vendors, DIY options for each port. A great resource to help you with your planning.:) Also, visit your library and borrow Ann Viponds "alaska by Cruiseship, or, Fodors 'Alaska Ports of Call'. Kimmer727 Posted October 30, 2013 #15 Share Posted October 30, 2013 Does anybody know what Pier Princess leaves out of - and which hotel is closest?
mapleleaves Posted October 30, 2013 #16 Share Posted October 30, 2013 Princess has used pier 91 in the past. http://www.portseattle.org/cruise/Pages/default.aspx Pier 66 is right downtown. Pier 91 is 5-6 miles north of downtown in a kind of industrial setting so there are no hotels nearby. Rregardless of where you stay in Seattle ... the downtown core, Seattle Center, Lake Union, etc; a taxi to the pier will only be around $20. twinmom38 Posted October 30, 2013 #17 Share Posted October 30, 2013 we are also on Miracle next August, to Alaska... ! We are booked at the Edgewater... I booked it, largely due to reccomendations from this board.. there are so many hotels in seattle, and they are all kind of pricey... i have booked through the hotel, a shuttle to pier 91 the morning of the sruise.. now i am figuring out getting from the ship back to the airport.. lots of good shuttle companies though... good luck! Splinter Posted October 31, 2013 #19 Share Posted October 31, 2013 In June we were able to pre-book a cab from Pier 91 to the airport for $38, which I consider a good deal. We used Flat Rate for Hire to do the booking (Google it).
