TV Dad Posted October 7, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 7, 2013 I am considering a family cruise on Uniworld's fairly new Century Paragon in June 2014. Does anyone have any experience with it?
HDS Posted October 8, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 8, 2013 You might get more response in the River Cruises section of Cruise Critic. We enjoyed our cruise on the Yangtze River 12 years ago with the victoria Line (I think). The Yangtze dam project was amazing and the dislocation it was causing was horrifying. The boat was not a family environment, one family with two delightful teenage children whose company we enjoyed and another with a small baby. We enjoyed a Uniworld river cruise along the Rhine and Danube very much, but no children on board. Food on both cruises was good but may not suit children's tastes. Any river cruise ship will be very different to the large ocean liners you list in your past cruises. In my experience river cruises do not have the choice of food or eating venues or large theatre performances of the big liners. Recreation/sport areas are small and there are no children's programs. Watching life along the river, exploring the places where the boat is moored, lectures on history and life in the areas you visit, are the entertainment. Sometimes a solo performer or a small group will perform in the evening. I guess it depends on the age and interests of your family members. I'd love to go back to see the finished dam and the flooded river but a lot of children I know would be underwhelmed.
