bhg71 Posted October 7, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 7, 2013 I am planning on using cash for our sail and sign account. If at some point during cruisee I want to add more cash can I withdraw on ship and have it applied? Also is their a mimimum you have to open account with? Can you prepay tips before boarding to avoid being charged to your account?
mephistoles Posted October 7, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 7, 2013 I am planning on using cash for our sail and sign account. If at some point during cruisee I want to add more cash can I withdraw on ship and have it applied? Also is their a mimimum you have to open account with? Can you prepay tips before boarding to avoid being charged to your account? We used cash for our S&S account and although we never had to add more, I'm sure that it can be done. I don't think that there is a minimum but keep in mind that your room gratuities are charged to your S&S card so make sure you have enough to cover them. When my mom cruised with us last year, she only placed $25 cash on her card because she couldn't find her credit card at that moment and we didn't want to hold anyone else up. (she did find it later). However, she received a nice little note from Guest Services that she had to add more which she was able to do so with her card. You can keep track of your S&S amount by printing it out from one of the kiosks or from checking onscreen in your room.
Starfire_rules Posted October 7, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 7, 2013 I use cash every cruise. If you need to add more cash, just go either to the kiosks or purser desk. I always use the purser. As for a minimum, they have a 'suggested' amount depending on cruise length but no 'must' amount. For a 7 day it is $200. timhoke Posted October 7, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 7, 2013 Yes you can prepay the tips if you like before you sail. What we do is set up the acct on a card & then pay it off in cash the last night on the boat.
Swayde Posted October 8, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 8, 2013 Don't they charge a fortune to withdraw money from the ATM on board?
Lizzrd4483 Posted October 8, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 8, 2013 Just off the Breeze and we used cash for our S&S: 1. No minimum amount needed to start 2. Yes we prepaid our tips to avoid them being charged to our S&S 3. There was an ATM on board it charged you $6 plus whatever your bank would charge. so you could get money out to put on S&S. frenchie504 Posted October 8, 2013 #7 Share Posted October 8, 2013 We put $300 Cruise Cash on the S&S before we sailed to cover gratuities for the 3 of us, and then we just went to the purser with cash in hand to add more during the week. It was very convenient, no hassle. If you don't have enough at some point, your card gets declined and you just go put more on. I don't think we would do it any other way. Just be aware that if you're over and you want to cash out on your last day, the lines are kind of long. mitsugirly Posted October 8, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 8, 2013 My oldest daughter, boyfriend and their son went with us on the Dream and they had a kiosk on the shopping floor. It was awesome. You could just go to it and enter the money and it instantly applied to the account. You could also go at any time and just get a printed statement of your account showing your spending and $$ left on it. They should have these things on all cruise lines! :)
near the beach Posted October 9, 2013 #9 Share Posted October 9, 2013 The ATM’s have a $6 fee per withdrawal. You can cash a personal check at guest services for free.
