Joie Posted October 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 11, 2013 We will be in Ocho Rios soon and wondered how far it is back to the ship? We would like to also find out what else there is to do at the falls BESIDES climb the falls....several in our group would not be able to climb them. Then if we want to leave early can we actually walk back to the ship or is it a very long way?
alicam Posted October 12, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 12, 2013 I would look at this link and then decide what to do...of course, things may have changed in the meantime http://www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowTopic-g147312-i110-k3313405-Dunns_River_falls_location-Ocho_Rios_Saint_Ann_Parish_Jamaica.html
Rare Lionesss Posted October 12, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 12, 2013 Oh my no. It is a definite transport excursion, with a private company or ship sponsored. Sea Ya

Contact this company: http://www.libertytoursjamaica.com We used them in August while on Allure OS and they were fantastic. Ricardo was our driver and was with us the whole time! They have a variety of tours they can customize for your group. Mystic Mountain may be a good tour for your group, Scotchies for lunch, sight seeing at Shaw Park, or Secret Falls. It was our best day off the ship!

Capt_BJ Posted October 14, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 14, 2013 It is only a mile or so but due to narrow roads, no sidewalk and island drivers I do NOT recommend walking it when not VERY familiar with the area (you can easily check via Google Earth) I've walked it and ridden my bike several times when I was a frequent visitor to Ocho (work schedule) DRF is a national park with gardens, the beach area with concessions and the market place. Admission is for a day at the park - not to climb the falls - the climb is technically free with admission.

There is a wide path right next to the river with about a 25-degree walk. There are frequent stopping points with benches overlooking the falls so you can take pictures of your party. Beware, the vendors are very pushy and can also be insulting if you don't buy from them. Don't accept any "free" gifts placed in your hands or you will be expected to pay for them by the local authorities.
