Allure - Crafts?

Recommended Posts

I took a jewelry-making class on the Allure, but wasn't too impressed. The first class and kit are free, then the nicer kits and more advanced classes have a fee. There wasn't much instruction provided and the "jewelry" was plastic pieces on a black cord. The other kits (beads) were pretty, but required showing up at certain times to work on them; there is too much to do on the Allure to spend that much time stringing beads :)

Different classes may be: jewelry making, scrapbooking, greeting card making.

Some are free, some have a cost. They are listed in the Cruise Compass with a dollar sign. I have never done one, so I don't know just how much they cost.

We got of Radiance OTS yesterday after 17 nights sailing from Honolulu to Sydney.

DW was the guest Arts & Crafts instructor and she presented a workshop in the afternoon of each sea day. This was in addition to the jewellery making and scrapbooking presented by the ship's staff.

If you're interested in the projects she (we) presented, scroll through our roll call, starting at post #1236

On the Splendour we had "Sentimental Stone" as free kit

And "Calm Seas" for 9.95 $

But we finished this kit at home. It took us more then 3 hours. Fortunaltey we do have the proper tools at home.

In 2011 on the Voyager we had this kit for free and I never finished the bracelt and the earrings

Here you can see some of the scrapbooking kits (and what we made out of it, partly at home and we bought the big Med kit in the photo shop for 49.95 $ including 10 photos). And here are some more kits. They do have several kits for free and others for 9.95 or 14.95 $. Adventure Ocean usually offers a Family Scrapbooking with another free kit. My daughter did some card making at the teens club too.

Sometimes I host craft classes on RCI - it's up to the vendor to choose the type of class (but should relate to the ports visited). These are the free classes, held on sea days, usually in a lounge.

Generally, when RCI staff host classes, there is a charge for materials.

Some that I've done are: Scrapbook page, beaded Seapass holder necklace, stitched lavender sachet, door sign, mat for photo frame, etc.

How did you contact Royal to present a craft class on a sailing. Who did you contact, etc? I have wanted to give a craft class but don't know who to contact

If you would email me at the following address I would appreciate it Thank you

Nope, that´s not true. The first class is usually for free as said by me and others before. The second class you get charged. But actually it depends on the participants and the host. For the second jewelry making class noone else showed up but me and my daughter. I had already decided to buy the kit. As we were told it will take more time than we do have for the class I said that I take one for the two of us. So we worked on the earrings and then got the instructions for the bracelet (which we finished at home as the necklace). By the end our host said that we get the kit for free as we were the only ones showing up.

It´s been similar with the scrapbooking class. For the second class a whole bunch of new people showed up. So they got the free kits which usually are handed out for the first class. And we got a different free kit (formal night).

I´d love to have an open meeting for any kind of crafts on RCI ships. I´ve attended meetings on the NCL Epic and also the QM2. Usually it´s saying "knitters and stitchers". BTW I´m doing counted cross stitch. On the QM2 we got a copy of the instructions for a bookmark which was usually sold as a kit onboard but they ran out of them and the producer wasn´t able to make more due to an illness.

Another version of this bookmark ended up on my cruising wall hanger where I do add pins
