Regal or Emerald for med in 2014?

We currently have 14 day Med cruise booked on the Emerald in Sept 2014 but are tempted by the Regal 12 day from Venice.

We haven't done all the ports of either itinerary but the Regal is slightly more pricey.

What are your thoughts ?

Two more days on Emerald, and it costs less. I think you have answered your own question about which is a better holiday value.

Add into that fewer people vying for excursions ashore.

Having sailed on Emerald Princess many times, I feel she is a beautiful ship, and for us offers more opportunities for dancing than the Royal/Regal design.

If air travel to/from the originating port is not an issue (as it would be for us in the States) then certainly take the Emerald Princess now, and choose the Regal Princess later after the new ship premium has lessened.

The Emerald cruise has 6 sea days and you are coming from and returning to Southampton. If you want more Med including Istanbul, Greece and Venice the Regal has a one way itinerary with just 2 sea days. The cost is not all that different. So as others suggested it comes down to the itinerary you like and perhaps, the airfare consideration as you can do a round trip from one airport instead of two different airports. Also, with the Regal itinerary if you add pre and post stays in Barcelona and then Venice it makes for a very nice cruise. I chose the Regal Med because it hit quite a few different parts of the Med. JMHO.

I have been looking at both as well. While I would really prefer to sail on the Emerald as opposed to the Regal, I just can't deny that the Regal's itinerary for what I want to see is far superior.

Sometimes have to remember that a cruise is a ride that stops for a short time in some nice places.

Even on our 14 day Caribbean with 12 port days we still spent most of our time on the ship.

We were planning on the Regal Southern Caribbean ... but upon discovery that our favorite onboard spots were removed from the design .

We started looking at other options and found the Emerald going to Belize and Roatan, two places that awe always wanted to dive. The Ruby goes to Caymen but drops Belize instead of Cozumel. Just if she only went to Cayman instead of Cozumel and was the Island or Coral all would be perfect...

But the Emerald is close enough.

I'd probably look at another cruise line for a similar itinerary than book Regal.

We did that and decided to stick with the Emerald and not jump ship so to speak ;)

We just really like Princess I guess...

They send us on one TA fam and we're hooked for life:cool:
