NCL Breakaway THANKSGIVING 2013 cruise - NEWBIE questions

Soooo stoked to be cruising NCL Breakaway over Thanksgiving this year!!! It's my first NCL cruise and my third cruise in my lifetime. Will be traveling with 35 family members (ranging from age 9 to 66). For most of my family, this is the first time on a cruise!

I had a few questions as I've never done freestyle cruising before!

1. When making reservations in the specialty restaurants it allows me up to groups of 8. But then it goes in my cart. Do I have to pay for all 8? Or will they charge each person at dinner?

2. Some of the cabins are booked for 2 people who want to use their own credit cards for their purchases. Is this do-able?

3. Does anyone have a current drink menu? Some of us are interested in the UBP.

4. Do you think it's possible to make a reservation in the MDR for my large group? If so, how can I go about doing this? Can I do it before we board? I am thinking just one or two nights we'd like to do this.

5. Any tips/tricks for a nice trip with my large group?

I'm sure I will have tons more questions and I appreciate all of you that read this!!!!

Welcome to Cruise Critic! You have definitely found the right place to research and get answers.

I had a few questions as I've never done freestyle cruising before!

1. When making reservations in the specialty restaurants it allows me up to groups of 8. But then it goes in my cart. Do I have to pay for all 8? Or will they charge each person at dinner?

Yes, it will charge you now. Honestly, unless you are trying to book a specialty restaurant for all 35 of you at once, there really is no need to prebook your dining. All of this can be done once onboard.

2. Some of the cabins are booked for 2 people who want to use their own credit cards for their purchases. Is this do-able?
During check-in at the pier, each person will be able to provide their individual credit card for their charges. No problem at all.

3. Does anyone have a current drink menu? Some of us are interested in the UBP.
I don't, but others may post with the info. You may also wish to do a search for "Drink Menu" and it might pop up for you.

4. Do you think it's possible to make a reservation in the MDR for my large group? If so, how can I go about doing this? Can I do it before we board? I am thinking just one or two nights we'd like to do this.

This could be tricky with the Freestyle concept, and the large number of people. I would recommend meeting with the Maitre 'D shortly after boarding, and discuss this with them. If anyone can make it happen, that is the person.

5. Any tips/tricks for a nice trip with my large group?
Yes. Be flexible and open-minded. That's a very large group, and it's likely that there will be plenty of different likes and dislikes. Spend time here reading and learning what's available onboard. Check out the Ports of Call boards for ideas in the ports. Share information in advance with everyone so they can all benefit from your research.

I'm sure I will have tons more questions and I appreciate all of you that read this!!!!

You are off on the right foot - researching!

One thought. Has your group booked as a group booking? If so, reach out to the group coordinator at NCL for help making a reservation for the main dining room, and for other possible assistance. ;)

Happy sailing!
