clairentommy Posted October 14, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 14, 2013 Any ideas as to why this would be? We are just short of 9 weeks till we sail and up until recently were assigned cabin 7434 after an upgrade from inside to balcony which looked great and I was really happy with this. When I went into my cruise manager last week to see if my boarding passes were ready it now shows that my cabin number is 7417 and I'm confused as to why they have changed I contacted my TA and they have had no word about the change either. Surely they should have at least sent an e-mail explaining a) that they were changing our cabin and b) why they were changing our cabin
hill6 Posted October 14, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 14, 2013 Was the original cabin they assigned you a quad or handicap cabin? If so they can move you if a party requires them

However, in some cases they will. Call Carnival, explain your situation, and that you contacted your TA and they also have no info. Ask them to do a three way call with your TA, which they can and will, to get this situation fixed. If they say they cannot do the three way call, ask for a supervisor. if you do not get a resolution, hang up and call again. I have done this before when my TA said I could not get a further reduction after a first one of 200. The next day, my cabin dropped another 200. TA said Carnival wouldn't do anything for me. I called Carnival, they put me and my tA on a three way call. The result was my choice, 400 onboard credit, or a upgrade from a balcony to a cat 11 wrap around suite on the Pride. Needless to say, we took the suite! Oh... and also needless to say, we dropped that TA and now I book all my cruises myself.
LargeCornGyro Posted October 14, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 14, 2013 And they seem to be surprised when they are asked why they don't contact the customer when they do this. I guess they see themselves as a hotel. And many I ask don't do room specifics there either. But on a cruise, very often I want a specific room for a specific reason. I don't like being on the edge thinking they might move me, and they move quite often trying to fill the jigsaw puzzle with full cabins. Luckily, I've only been moved once. cruzn buckeye Posted October 14, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 14, 2013 Was the original cabin they assigned you a quad or handicap cabin? If so they can move you if a party requires them According to previous posts, the op is sailing on the Splendor. 7434 is one of the odd shaped cabins in the back that hold 2 people. So, there is no reason to change the cabin. Perhaps someone else wanted it, and the TA changed the ops so they could give it to someone else. To the OP... CAll carnival as soon as possible and get this straightend out. There is no reason why they should have changed your cabin. It can be changed if it is handicap and someone needs it, which it is not. It can be changed if it holds more people and someone with a larger family needs it. But neither of those apply. Please post how this turns out. You will not get this resolved through your TA alone since the answer they gave you is, they don't know. also insist that they put you back in the cabin you booked. Which can be done. I had this happen on another cruise, they put someone else in our cabin. I called Insisted, and they moved them somewhere else and gave us the cabin which we had booked. clairentommy Posted October 14, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted October 14, 2013 Was the original cabin they assigned you a quad or handicap cabin? If so they can move you if a party requires them I don't think so, how could I check that? I've looked on deck plans etc and can't see anything specific. It's one of the cabins that is at the corner of the aft/corridor and from looking at the pics I thought it would have been a bit tight for a wheelchair access etc....but if there's a site I can check I'll have a look....don't mind if it's for that just would have been nice to be told is all I'm saying :) When booking through a TA, Carnival will not talk with you directly. I've asked my TA to contact them as when I asked her why she seemed confused by this too and she hasn't heard anything from them. I'll leave it with her to chase as don't want to get into the whole "can't speak to you" type conversations with Carnival as it just frustrates me....but the fact that neither myself or my TA has been made aware of it is what's annoying...didn't think they could just do that without explaining why

However, if no result ... do call Carnival. its not that hard to do and the cabin you had 7434, is a much desired cabin. The bed faces the ocean. Love love love this cabin. its your choice, but why give up a good thing? it wont be an argumentative call. it is just procedure.
racegrrl Posted October 14, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 14, 2013 OP - you said you were "assigned" - did you book a guarantee? I have never done one but if I am correct your cabin could be changed at any time up until sailing, as long as it's minimally the cabin category guar. you booked. This could happen again before sailing, such is the way with guarantees, again - as I understand and why I won't book one.
Aplmac Posted October 14, 2013 #9 Share Posted October 14, 2013 Someone (with influence?) wanted that big balcony more than the OP did and probably paid bigger bucks for it! ;) http://www.cruisecheap.com/c/deckplan.php?SailDate=&ShipID=53974&DeckNumber=7 . sailor_jimc Posted October 14, 2013 #11 Share Posted October 14, 2013 OP said they were assigned the cabin after an upgrade from an inside. Was it a paid for upgrade or are were they booked TBA? If the upgrade was done by Carnival, on a TBA, then Carnival can move them or even un-upgrade them if they so choose. If they were upgraded from an inside (Cat 4) to a BG (TBA balcony rate) then they also may be subjected to being moved to a new balcony. But all of this is speculation until Carnival can be contacted by the TA or the OP and find out why they were moved.

Hi, sorry I used the wrong word when i said "assigned"....the reason I wrote this was that we had merely asked our TA to book us a balcony cabin having previously been in an inside. I trusted her to complete my cabin upgrade and she duly sent the information to me quoting the corner room and I have documents to prove this. Now when I go in it has changed without explanation. It wasn't on an "assigned when you board" basis, we had our room, it's been booked fair & square by our TA but nobody knows why. I did call Carnival, very polite - just asked if someone could explain to me why I have been moved cabins.....she said "didn't you ask for it"....answered as above, we have made 1 x change from an inside to a balcony, got our cabin number etc...but now the boarding passes are ready they have changed our cabin and asked if she could explain why.....and she said no, there was nothing she could tell me other than if I want a 3-way with her and my TA.... Trying to get my TA on the phone now to see if we can do a 3-way as something just doesn't feel right about it now.
rickechambers1@aol.com Posted October 14, 2013 #17 Share Posted October 14, 2013 Had similar cabin on Breeze a few weeks ago and it was fantastic. Booked it on Valor for next year...deck 7 again. The balcony is really large with a lounger table and two chairs. I would definately follow up as those are hard to get cabins.
clairentommy Posted October 14, 2013 Author #18 Share Posted October 14, 2013 OK here goes....I wrote to my TA asking if she could do a 3-way call with Carnival to try to resolve this issue and got a reply back saying NO she couldn't do that.... I unfortunately cannot do this. I can speak to carnival to see if we can get the corner room back, but I do not have anything to do with room allocation – this is all done on carnivals behalf. Is it just my suspicious nature or do you think my TA doesn't want me to hear what Carnival may have to say about this? Carnival say it wasn't them, they're happy to do a 3-way but my TA doesn't want to??

rickechambers1@aol.com Posted October 14, 2013 #20 Share Posted October 14, 2013 Assuming youre on the 12/19 sailing (great price for Xmas sailing by the way)...of course the L shaped cabins show not available now. Two suggestions...if the price has dropped (currently $859 base rate) I would upgrade if there is no...or little price...difference to aft balcony. If price is the same I don't know what recourse you would have but to not use a travel agent in the future that doesn't advocate on your behalf. Booking directly with Carnival has worked best for me. Good luck!
christmas Posted October 14, 2013 #21 Share Posted October 14, 2013 Well under the Cruise Ticket Contract Carnival can change your cabin at anytime and for any reason without contacting you. So you really cant do anything about it. Sorry.
clairentommy Posted October 14, 2013 Author #22 Share Posted October 14, 2013 Sounds fishy to me. I would call Carnival back again and ask them to initiate the 3 way call to get this settled. I wouldn't accept that answer. I called back, spoke to someone called Robert who was extremely helpful and gave me loads of time and info....turns out the cabin I was assigned was a lower cabin than the upgrade fee I had paid so there were 2 changes made, both on same day but one was an 8A (corner) and the other an 8B.....he tried to get me into one of the corner cabins but they are all full.....not 100% happy and will NEVER use a TA again, this has been a nightmare booking from start>finish but in the end I've told him I'll just stick with what the cabin is now and start to enjoy the build up to my cruise.....wish I had done everything myself....lesson learned
