SamFritz Posted October 14, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 14, 2013 521 years ago a young entrepreneur established the first cruise line with a fleet of three state of the art ships. Their exciting itinerary included stops in Southern Europe and the Caribbean. The main dining room service and menu may have lacked prime rib, the entertainment was limited to a sailors horn pipe on the poop deck, and there was no rock climbing wall, ice skating rink, or miniature golf course. The trip was enjoyed by all on board, though some complained that there weren't enough deck chairs, and a long line was observed at guest services on the final night as some of those aboard wanted to remove their gratuities because the cabin boy failed to empty the chamber pots regularly, leading to sewer odors in some parts of the ships. Thank You Royal Caribbean for upgrading the experience. HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY!

mom says Posted October 14, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 14, 2013 OK, so you got me on the Eric the Great thing. First Caribbean Cruise Line? Maybe? Cruise line? Um, no. More along the lines of today's equivalent of 3 tramp steamers underwritten by a couple of European billionaires on the lookout for a future source of lucrative import/export opportunities. dorisis Posted October 14, 2013 #7 Share Posted October 14, 2013 I've had it on good authority that captain Noah on the good ship Ark was really the first to cruise. However his passengers had little or nothing to say about the trip.
Aquahound Posted October 14, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 14, 2013 Anyone else have humorous thoughts about what might have been missing? CCL (Christopher Columbus Line) had 3 ships of the same exact design, all of which were overcrowded and at times had feces running down the walls. Hmmmm. Not much has changed with CCL. :D
