dcrow72 Posted October 17, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 17, 2013 Booked the Bon Voyage experience for daughters on CB out of New York. One has a passport and I could print her "boarding pass"; the other has none and because the ship goes out of the country, it won't let me choose driver's license as an ID so can't print a boarding pass. She called and after being put to several people, was told not to worry about it. Just curious if anyone else has had such an issue and what they may have done. Would hate to get all the way there and then not be able to get inside! Thanks
Potstech Posted October 17, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 17, 2013 Would wonder why they would need a passport for just a short tour of the ship. After all they will be leaving before the ship embarks. Strange very strange.
PescadoAmarillo Posted October 17, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 17, 2013 Although I don't have any personal experience with this, I have read posts about it here on CC were others were told the same thing, and it was fine when they arrived at check in. dcrow72 Posted October 17, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted October 17, 2013 thanks. They said that they don't have website set up for it yet and therefore they give you a booking number as if you are cruising for you to fill out all the information. It has driver's license as an option but won't accept it because of the itinerary! Talk about confusing. Then you call and get shuffled to different people because they were all unsure themselves. I'll let everyone know how it works out when we get back.
Essiesmom Posted October 17, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 17, 2013 If you booked it for the Oct. 26 cruise, the passport requirement (for those sailing) is because it is not a closed loop cruise, but a repo, NYC to Houston. EM
Thrak Posted October 17, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 17, 2013 The problem is that there is no separate booking system in place for the BVE. My wife and I did one recently and there was a rep at check-in making notes about the reservation notices. Ours said boarding was at 1:00 PM and we had to be off the ship by 3:00 PM. That was bogus info and, thanks to folks here at cc, we knew better and boarded at 11:00 AM. The guy checking the boarding slips was noting all of the ones with this incorrect info and said they were trying to get a separate BVE registration system implemented to avoid these kinds of issues. Maybe someday...
DrivesLikeMario Posted October 17, 2013 #7 Share Posted October 17, 2013 Put in a bogus passport ID (like 12345678 or 00000001) and print the boarding pass. When they get to the port, present an original birth certificate (not a copy) and a drivers' license. It will be no problem. :)

Would hate to get all the way there and then not be able to get inside! Thanks The short answer is that you do not need a passport to register for the Bon Voyage Experience. When you register, use the drop down menu choice of "Birth Certificate" and then write in the Driver's License number. There will be difficulties if you try to use the "driver's license" choice, since this is actually for the few states which have Enhanced driver's licenses. You might want to read the thread I started for the two Bon Voyage Experiences we did, which includes information on registering for the program. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1888408
