kbartges Posted October 19, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 19, 2013 I am a diamond member with royal caribbean. I have only cruised with royal. I am looking to do a different cruise line. Looking at either the Breakaway with NCL or the Breeze with Carnival. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Rare rafinmd Posted October 19, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 19, 2013 Try both and see if either works for you. Loyalty should be a two-way street. I hope RCI is loyal to you but the seek other customers. Why shouldn't you try other cruise lines? Roy
celebrity Posted October 19, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 19, 2013 Have you considered Celebrity? Since you are Diamond on Royal, you are entitled to the reciprocal benefits. Sorry, I can't comment on NCL or Carnival as I haven't sailed those lines.

north29 Posted October 19, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 19, 2013 To RCI (Royal, X or AZ), as long as they have the same itineraries as everyone else. Having said that I'm open to other options, and MSC has been in my sites, as well as Princess, basically for the itineraries they offer now and again. But to chose them I would have to save up for my bar bill might be higher than the cruise LOL.
janetz Posted October 19, 2013 #7 Share Posted October 19, 2013 ;) Celebrity is great. We also like Princess, very much. Their ships are beautiful. We love NCL Freestyle....Carnival, blah. We enjoy shows and different entertainment venues, which Carnival seems to be lacking in. I guess it depends on what you enjoy. Big foodies? Celebrity.... reney313 Posted October 19, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 19, 2013 Judging by your cruise history, I think most of the Carnival ships would be disappointing. NCL Breakaway might be an option if you are interested in Bermuda. Personally, I have had great experiences on NCL. I just haven't enjoyed the ships as much although breakaway has me intrigued. It really is a personal decision because the experiences are very subjective. I like to have some variety so taking a break from RCI every few cruises and going on another line helps so I don't get "bored" with the same activities (eg. Quest, Belly Flop, Sexy Legs, etc) or with the same menus. RCI is my first preference but the other lines do have their own strengths as well and sprinkled in here or there really helps with that monotony. Of course, it is a difference when you no longer have status, etc. so that is something to take into account if the status perks are a priority for you. First decide where you want to go. THEN look at what other cruise lines go there.
roysmith99 Posted October 19, 2013 #10 Share Posted October 19, 2013 We too have only ever cruised with Royal Caribbean and have wondered if the grass is greener...... That's it, nothing more to say, just a quiet night at home - if you like Royal Caribbean, stick with them.
markadele Posted October 19, 2013 #11 Share Posted October 19, 2013 I would pick NCL over Carnival have been on the Breeze and wasn't impressed and on NCL Dawn and like them and the Breakaway should be better than the Dawn.

Anyship except Carnival to Bermuda with the longest amount of time there! On my wish list. ;)

Desert Cruizers Posted October 19, 2013 #14 Share Posted October 19, 2013 We have always had good cruises on Princess, however the one thing we don't care for are their smaller rooms. Myself and friends of ours were on the Sept 22nd Coastal on the Star Princess and they had a JS, our D-1 on the Radiance was bigger.
FLACRUISER99 Posted October 19, 2013 #15 Share Posted October 19, 2013 Try my favorites Celebrity, HAL or Princess. Honestly, I don't have a problem with Carnival or NCL.
emeraldcity Posted October 19, 2013 #16 Share Posted October 19, 2013 I took a hard look at the Breakaway a few months back ... but I have to say I thought the pricing was awfully high. Maybe that will come down when the second one of its class comes on line.
Rare marielco Posted October 19, 2013 #17 Share Posted October 19, 2013 We are doing our right RCI cruise in ten days time but have booked one on NCL for next year. Quite happy with RCI but curious to experience another cruise line and NCL has freestyle dining which is something we would like to try.

DonnaK Posted October 19, 2013 #19 Share Posted October 19, 2013 We are rather loyal to Royal too. We took a Celebrity cruise recently and it was outstanding (and that was on an older ship, too)! We also enjoyed our Princess cruises.
gerif Posted October 19, 2013 #20 Share Posted October 19, 2013 Did several other cruiselines before trying Royal. The only one we'd go back to is Celebrity.

petel Posted October 19, 2013 #22 Share Posted October 19, 2013 We are doing our right RCI cruise in ten days time but have booked one on NCL for next year. Quite happy with RCI but curious to experience another cruise line and NCL has freestyle dining which is something we would like to try. We did a 7 night TA on Breakaway. Nothing "free" and no "style" was seen. The most important problem I had with the line is they did not take safety seriously. The boat drill was 1000+ people in the main lobby and only one crew member for each station knew the route from the lobby to the life boat and they would not tell us how to get ther. The boats were on a different deck and the stairs were behind crew only doors . The food was always cold because it was prepared on a different deck and wasn't sent to the prep station until several tables were ready. You could never get the same waiter twice. No cook or server had a food thermometer. Shows had no energy. Officers were stuk up and down right unfriendly. Very few crew members would speak to you. The common areas were low ceilings and dark mostly. The large open lobby (boat drill) was open above to two decks and resembled a hotel lobby. So, I guess you could say I was not impressed with NCL and did not appreciate the Breakaway.
