Cashing out excess money(!)

I am from the UK and am thinking about a cruise next year in the USA. If after booking I were to gift myself OBC to my account but not spend it all can I go to Passenger Services desk at the end of the cruise and get my money in cash rather than re-credited to my credit card? I would be spending time in the US after the cruise so it would come in handy! I am not talking about loading $1000's but maybe up to a couple of hundred $.

I do not think you can get it from the Pursers desk I find I always get my extra cash from the casino via the casino card - even if you do not gamble at all. It is a system whereby you transfer cash from your on board account to the casino card and then cash this money out at the casino desk.

Back in May my partner and I each paid $2000 Aussie dollars (exchange rate was great - one Aussie $ for one American) via Princess Australia bank account (details of the account we needed to use were given by Princess Rep I spoke to) so no CC fees were charged for paying in the money as an OBC for ourselves. We were doing the Beijing to Vancouver Cruise on the Diamond and didn't want to take lots of extra cash or have a big Credit Card bill at the end of the trip as we were was also spending a week in China before hand.

The day before the cruise ended we went to the Pursuers desk and paid our final accounts (as it stood at that stage) and got lots of lovely American dollars back as we hadn't used them all. We now have those notes put away for our next trip. We did spend a few extra dollars on some drinks after we had paid the final account and that just went on the Credit card bill as normal.

Be very carefull with this this now. It used to be a good way, however, if Princess suspect you are doing this they will now block your card. How do I know this? I have witnessed it with some friends I was sailing with. They downloaded money from one machine but did not play it. When they later went to play a machine they found the card was blocked. Casino cage said they had blocked it due to 'suspicion' that they were trying to get cash without paying the required 3% fee.

True.

We did it; we just played small-stakes on the machine until we came out a little bit (67 cents) ahead. Then cashed right out. Cage boss had nothing to complain about, since we played the slot machine.

I would also cash out once you lose 2% to 3% - then you are no worse off than if using the ATM.
