Gary & Michelle Posted October 20, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 20, 2013 Hi We are due on the Celebrity Eclipse on 16/11/13 from Fort Lauderdale. Can anyone tell me what the dress code is like for the formal nights. Do the majority of people were suits or Tux.
jackdiamond Posted October 20, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 20, 2013 Tuxes, suits, or dinner jackets etc., are the requirments of the dress code.
Rare ghstudio Posted October 20, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 20, 2013 There are many many threads on this if you do a search here. It varies by cruise but probably at least 70% wear a tux or suit, 25% wear a blazer or sports jacket and there are always a few that don't wear a jacket but seem to be admitted to the mdr anyway. Note...only the mdr has a formal dress code. If you eat in blu or a specialty restaurant on formal night there will be many more in sports jacket.blazers and 20% or more following the dress code for those restaurants which is smart casual every night. Others may have different percentages or comments...it's always a hot topic here.
dkjretired Posted October 20, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 20, 2013 Hi We are due on the Celebrity Eclipse on 16/11/13 from Fort Lauderdale. Can anyone tell me what the dress code is like for the formal nights. Do the majority of people were suits or Tux. Below is the dress code for smart casual nights and formal nights on Celebrity. You will get many opinions on this question since it is perhaps the most volatile question asked on this board and elicits many responses. IMHO you need to take into account a few things, first, the formal dress code applies only to the Main Dining Room on formal nights. It does not apply to the rest of the ship. Secondly, you have to distinguish between what the dress code is and the personal opinions of those who will post. They often do not match. Finally, the smart casual dress code states smart casual and above which leaves you to make your own decisions based upon your preferences. With all that being said, it is my opinion that on Caribbean cruises, Tuxes are becoming less common and most men will be in suits for formal night. Smart Casual & Above" attire includes: Ladies: Skirt or pants (no holes, rips or tears) with a sweater or blouse. Gentlemen: Pants (no holes, rips or tears) with a sports shirt or sweater. Shirts must have sleeves. "Formal" attire includes: Ladies: Cocktail dress, gown, or dressy pantsuit. Gentlemen: Tuxedo, suit, or dinner jacket with slacks. Only required in the Main Restaurant on formal evenings. The dress code in Celebrity’s specialty restaurants, including Blu for AquaClass guests, is “Smart Casual & Above” for every night of the cruise, regardless of the evening dress code in the main restaurant. Note that T-shirts, swimsuits, robes, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps and pool wear are not allowed in the main restaurant or specialty restaurants at any time. Shorts and flip-flops are not allowed in the evening hours but are acceptable for lunch. The appropriate dress code will be enforced at all restaurants. Additionally, you are asked to follow the "Smart Casual & Above" dress code in the Celebrity Theater for all evening performances. The daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening. A casual dress code applies at all time onboard Celebrity Xpedition®.
Oxo Posted October 20, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 20, 2013 Celebrity is more strict for the Elite Happy Hour (5-7pm) than anything else. Never see them enforce dress code in MDR on Formal night. However, don't wear a muscle shirt in the MDR at anytime. They do enforce that. So, regardless of what the dress code is, it never is what it is. solway shipping Posted October 20, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 20, 2013 Hi Gary and Michelle, I have been on the Eclipse a couple of times and find the Eclipse Roll Calls forum is a better place for any questions (in fact there is already a well established forum on there for your cruise. Enjoy your cruise, she's a fantastic ship and can be as formal or informal as YOU want. Danny

Thanks Don, I do like to wear a tux on occasion but do not want to look out of place. Just wondering what the dress code is like ship wide not just MDR on formal nights, and if a lot of people do wear tux or is it mostly suits. A lot of people stay in their clothes for the evening but a lot also change after dinner. Again, do as you wish, you will not be alone.

Oxo Posted October 20, 2013 #17 Share Posted October 20, 2013 They should change the MDR dress code to allow muscle shirts for breakfast and lunch. Too many people are not aware of it. Yes, it is on the bottom of the sign entering the MDR. But who stops to read that?
Redtravel Posted October 20, 2013 #18 Share Posted October 20, 2013 I know how confusing it can be. Cruises used to have more formal attire. That is not the way it is now. Of course, there will be some people who dress up in tuxedos and gowns. They will be on the minority. Most men wear suit or sport jacket with tie. Some do not wear ties. There will also be some men without jackets. Anything except shorts seems to acceptable. Most women wear short skirts, dresses, or pants with a blouse. My favorite is chico travelers. They pack well and look nice.

Yes, it is on the bottom of the sign entering the MDR. But who stops to read that? If it is simply a case of people not knowing, my preference would be to have Celebrity better publicize the dress code rather than modify it to reflect the dress of those who aren't aware of it. I'll try and find the thread... That thread has been closed...but here is what was written by a poster: "Just back from Equinox and the dress code had been relaxed to include shorts for men in the Elite lounge. I understand this is a new fleet wide policy to give those who have toured during the day a chance to go in there without having to shower and change." ... Never saw any confirmation from anyone else...or comments from anyone who has been advised of this possible change. Perhaps the poster will come back and offer more info. Yes, it is on the bottom of the sign entering the MDR. But who stops to read that? Nobody over the age of 25 should wear a "muscle shirt" anywhere other than the pool area (if they really have to) As well as shorts, black socks and sandals lol My opinion only! Bring on the flack! NO flack! however, many women do not shave their underarms in Europe countries. So, I will back off and say - lets be honest. There are much more disgusting things than hairy underarms that I have seen on a ship and in the MDR. LOL

A lot of tuxes are worn on formal nights. I have never felt over dressed wearing one. I will be wearing one on each formal night again in January too. hawkers Posted October 21, 2013 #25 Share Posted October 21, 2013 Formal nights on our recent European cruise on Reflection were quite varied. Men were permitted to dine in the restaurant with a minimum of 'collar & tie' but there were a few wearing a tux! So suits were not essential.
