2015 Trip: Breakaway Or Jewel Of The Seas?

Good Evening, Fellow Cruisers!

I Am In A Bit Of A Dilemma, And Am Hoping For Your Expect Advice.

I Took My Wife And Parents On Our Very First Cruise This Past May, 2013, On The Allure / Western Caribbean, And Instantly Fell In Love With The Ship, Royal Caribbean, And Cruising In General.

In Fact, I Had Such A Great Time That While On The Ship, I Booked Us The Allure Again For May 2014, But This Time The Eastern Caribbean.

While Starting The Planning For Our 2015 Trip, I Came Across The Jewel, Which Sails Out Of Puerto Rico, And Has A Very Nice Southern Itinerary.

I Was All Set To Book The 2015 Southern Caribbean Trip, While On The Allure In May 2014, And Use The OBC On The Allure Trip.

That Was My Plan, Until A Phenomenal Sale Occurred With My Travel Agent, And Involved NCL.

You See, I Have Had My Eye On The Getaway, For Some Time…But The Horrid Reviews From The Breakaway Had Me Scared.

Well, Love And Behold, My Agent Was Able To Get Me A Spa Mini-Suite On The Getaway For April 2015, With $220 Of OBC, A Free Bottle Of Wine, And Dinner For Two At Cagney’s Steakhouse.

I Keep Going Back And Forth, And If I Do Decide On The Getaway, I Need To Book Soon As The Sail Will End Soon.

Few Things I Am Considering:

The Getaway Total Price For Just The Cruise Is $3300, While The

Jewel Is $1900.

Now, Before Someone Mentions It, I Know The Ships Are Not In

The Same Category.

I Am A Big Fan Of Loyalty, And Like The Idea Of Staying With One Line (RCCL) To Boast Up My Crown / Anchor Points.

The Reviews For The Breakaway Really Have Me Concerned, But A Few Of Mine Was Just On Her, And Loved Her. I Wonder If The Reviews Have Gotten Better On Breakaway, Only Due To The Fact This Is Slow Time, And Not As Busy.

I Love Being In The Sun, At The Pools, And The Crowding Reviews Of The Pool On Seas Days (Breakaway) Have Me Worried.

Yes, There Were More People On The Allure, But There Were Also More Pools, And Only Ever Felt Lots Of People After The Muster Drill, When Everyone Left.

Thoughts Would Be Greatly Appreciated!

I Am Posting This On Both The RCCL / NCL Boards To Get A Good Range Of Advice, As I Am Sure There Will Be Some Bias Opinions.

-Michael

I would go on the Getaway/Breakaway just for something different, if you're going for the ship. I don't know what the itenerary is for the Breakaway. My friends went on the Jewel and they did the southern caribbean, they said it was nice, but just another caribbean cruise. So, if I had the choice and I've been on the Allure and others, I'd pick the Breakaway unless money is an issue.

I would book the Jewel. The Breakaway looks like a cool ship (on the inside). I've just heard too many comments on BAD service and BAD food and that hull "artwork"....no thanks.

Because of the hull "artwork" you won't cruise on a ship?

If I had the same decision as you, I'd defitive choose JEWEL OTS!!!

The size of 90090 GT and around 2500 passengers are PERFECT - that's the reason why I like CELEBRITY SUMMIT!!!

Also, the itinerary of JEWEL are more appealing.

BREAKAWAY only visits three ports in seven days, if you wanna have 5 islands in the Caribbean, BREAKAWAY has to travel a long time from NYC to the Caribbean.

JEWEL starts already in the Caribbean, in San Juan. ;)

Are you cruising for the ship or the itinerary? It sounds to me as if you loved the Allure for the ship. If that is your priority I would go for the Breakaway. If you want to see the Southern islands, then go with the Jewel. We love all aspects of cruising, but sometimes we go knowing that the ship will be our focus and sometimes we go with the expectation that the itinerary is our focus. When we went on the Allure it was all about the ship for us. When we went to Hawaii on the NCL it was all about the islands. Both cruises were our best vacation ever!

That said, we are going on a B2B on the Jewel in 2014. While the itinerary is our focus, we also love that ship. It is a completely different ship than the Allure, but beautiful all the same. We have been on her before.

What it comes down to is what are your expectations? If your experience matches or exceeds your expectations you will have a wonderful time. If not, you will be disappointed.

Breakaway looks like an awesome ship. I really would love to sail on it. While Jewel is a more beautiful one. More intimate, and the ports cannot be beaten. Breakaway is brand new so that is a plus as well...

HOWEVER I would go for the Jewel, FOR NOW.

So you can get to see the last Brilliance class ship au natural lol. Without the refurbishment and all those pay venues.

So you can sail on it while it is not so old. It is not old at all, but well, you know what I mean

Also, with all the big money you will be saving from not picking the Breakaway, you could extend your vacation in Puerto Rico for maybe one more week. havent been to PR but I will be there 3 nights pre, 3 nights post cruise. Ive seen and heard it it BEAUTIFUL.

OR do a B2B on the Jewel! That's what we're doing. It's a great value and if you can spend the time why not enjoy an extra week once you fly all the way to SJU?:D
