bushy tail Posted October 25, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 25, 2013  Could anyone tell me if there is a charge for sea sick pills at the main desk?
Typhoon1 Posted October 25, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 25, 2013 There is a nominal fee. I believe the only thing free is aspirin.
sail7seas Posted October 25, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 25, 2013 Unless something has changed, the front office always gave meclizine (in small quantity) upon request. I mentioned in the other forum where you posted this OP, why not bring your own so you will be prepared in case you need sea sick meds? I wouldn't rely upon the front office having meds for me .... I'd feel far more secure having my own supply.
jtl513 Posted October 25, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 25, 2013 There is a nominal fee. What ship and when? I've never paid for Sea-Calm (meclizine) on any cruise at the front desk or at the infirmary. On several ships at the infirmary there were self-service bins of free aspirin, acetaminophen, meclizine, and band-aids. sail: simul-typing :)
headhunterke Posted October 26, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 26, 2013 Maybe things have changed by now, but last November, these pills were still free of charge. I tought only other drugs, besides aspirin and meclizine, had to be paid for if needed. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Rare kazu Posted October 26, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 26, 2013 I have picked up these pills on several occasions on different cruises and different ships for my DH and friends. (They weren't up to going:rolleyes:) Never ever been charged at any time. I don't think anything has changed. I only got one pack on the P'dam less than three months ago as I convinced DH to use the ginger and green apples and that did the trick for him:D
mamaofami Posted October 26, 2013 #7 Share Posted October 26, 2013 I"ve never been charged either. On one cruise on Noordam, the water was very rough and they had them out in a dish at the main desk.
mrscopper Posted October 26, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 26, 2013 We have been on a few cruises with rough seas and HAL has had pills at the main desk in big bowl. I also cut my finger on something and at the Infirmary office they gave me free bandaids. I usually bring Bomine and take before I get on ship. JudeeJim Posted October 26, 2013 #9 Share Posted October 26, 2013 Mecziline can be bought in 100 pill bottles manufactured by Rugby. It is generic Bonine and I paid $10.00 for the bottle. Just ask he pharmacist if you don't see it on the shelf. Judee

Big Dawg CC Posted October 26, 2013 #11 Share Posted October 26, 2013 15 HAL cruises. Always free; no need to bring your own. My wife "eats" them like candy.
BruceMuzz Posted October 26, 2013 #12 Share Posted October 26, 2013 Princess charges for them at the Passenger Services Desk.
Oceans&Rivers Posted October 26, 2013 #13 Share Posted October 26, 2013 Princess charges for them at the Passenger Services Desk. Great. So while someone waits in line at the Passenger Services Desk to buy meclizine (free on every other line), someone pukes on the carpet, or on another passenger's shoes. Princess is going to have to clean that mess up. Penny-wise and pound-foolish, don't you think?

Maybe the Bonine sold in Massachusetts is the old formula that does not contain meclizine? Buy Bonine Less Drowsy formula. That contains meclizine HCL. It doesn't act quickly, and should be used as a preventative when rough water is predicted..
Krazy Kruizers Posted October 26, 2013 #16 Share Posted October 26, 2013  Could anyone tell me if there is a charge for sea sick pills at the main desk? Are you sure those pills are for you?? Wouldn't it be better to check with your family doctor to find out what he suggests you take? He knows you the best and knows what other prescriptions you are taking.
jtl513 Posted October 26, 2013 #17 Share Posted October 26, 2013 Are you sure those pills are for you?? Wouldn't it be better to check with your family doctor ... What makes you think they're not? All the OP is asking is if they're free.

stlouistravelers Posted October 26, 2013 #19 Share Posted October 26, 2013 I'm surprised that these drugs (OTC or not) are available for the asking. I can see where it can be abused and result in a lawsuit. At least when you pay for them at the ships store they have denyability.
Typhoon1 Posted October 26, 2013 #20 Share Posted October 26, 2013 I agree with KK. Get a recommendation from your physician and take the medication with you. Personally, I wouldn't trust any of those OTC products.
SilvertoGold Posted October 26, 2013 #21 Share Posted October 26, 2013 In Canada the main sea-sick remedy is Gravol (OTC). Anyone know if the ones mentioned above are better? I find that Gravol puts DH to sleep (although this may be a good idea??) Thanks!
jtl513 Posted October 26, 2013 #22 Share Posted October 26, 2013 I agree with KK. Get a recommendation from your physician ... Then you're both jumping to unwarranted conclusions. From the OP's simple question there is no way for you to know if she is taking them on the advice of a physician or not, or if so what was recommended. The question sounds to me like she is familiar with taking them. In Canada the main sea-sick remedy is Gravol (OTC). Gravol is not meclizine. In United States, it is marketed under brand names Dramamine, Driminate, Gravol, Gravamin, Vomex, and Vertirosan. Ask your doctor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimenhydrinate
