LMaxwell Posted October 26, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 26, 2013 Crown Princess is due to sail later today from Southampton but bad storms are bearing down on southern England. Shogun Posted October 26, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 26, 2013 Hi There While never good to be sat in port, safety comes first, and with the weather man saying this is a nasty storm best place to be. yours Shogun
LMaxwell Posted October 26, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted October 26, 2013 Thanks for the updates. I have relatives onboard and was just curious what would be done. It is better that they sit in Southampton and ride out the storm than be subjected to it. It looks like they will miss France and Spain unfortunately; I don't have any idea if other ports of call are on or off at this point. If anyone aboard gets an update please share. zogrand Posted October 26, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 26, 2013 We've been told that the soonest we would leave Southampton is Monday afternoon but probably later. Ports still unknown until they know exactly when we will leave. Shuttles into Southampton to run next 2 days. Tonight we change piers to protect ship from winds. gooch47 Posted October 26, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 26, 2013 Oh, my. Better safe than sorry, though. We've been in some horrendous weather in that part of the world. Probably the only time I really felt uneasy. When the ship would come down hard after hitting a big wave, the whole thing would shudder.
Bogof1 Posted October 26, 2013 #9 Share Posted October 26, 2013 The crown has now changed berths, in a more sheltered part of Southampton. Hope you get on with your cruise as soon as it is safe.
cinnamon Posted October 26, 2013 #10 Share Posted October 26, 2013 I have friends from the US onboard. I am so glad they are not sailing into this storm.
aquilegia Posted October 26, 2013 #11 Share Posted October 26, 2013 We just got off the Crown this morning after the Canaries cruise. We had one bumpy night going down through the Bay of Biscay, but when we came back through there yesterday it was really pleasant, with plenty of sunshine. I was shocked when I saw the weather forecast and think we were really lucky to complete our cruise just in time. We met a lot of Americans and Canadians on board who were staying on for the repositioning back to the US. I hope the bad weather soon passes and they are able to get underway. zogrand Posted October 26, 2013 #14 Share Posted October 26, 2013 Please stay safe. Would love updates if you have the time. What is your itinerary originally suppose to be? We are supposed to be in Le Havre Sunday, Vigo, Spain on Tuesday, Lisbon on Wednesday, the Azores on Friday, and Bermuda on Nov. 6, arriving in Fort Lauderdale on the 9th. I have no problems with playing it safe and most of the passengers I've spoken with are saying the same thing. I do feel badly for those passengers who have made plans to see Normandy. It is often a once in a life time opportunity.

TourDeCruise Posted October 27, 2013 #16 Share Posted October 27, 2013 Thanks for any updates that people can provide. We have a friend onboard who emailed me last night and this morning. He reported from McDonalds this morning that it is sunny and a beautiful day now (few hours ago) but weather is supposed to deteriorate during the day. The shuttle today is taking them to a shopping center and not to old town. No excursions are being offered due to the weather. As of last night he said they may be missing Le Havre, Vigo, & Lisbon (see another update below). He said the food is very good and ship is very nice. A post this morning on the Crown Princess rollcall from someone on the ship said: Crown Princess is delayed in Southampton til at least tomorrow nite or Tuesday. Storm coming tonight. Princess is running shuttles into Southampton today. Ship is staying put til further notice. Ports of LeHarve and Vigo cancelled. Lisbon may also be cancelled. Here at Starbucks using the Internet. Whiteowl Posted October 27, 2013 #19 Share Posted October 27, 2013 Just been shopping in Southampton. The ship is tied up safe and well at the cruise terminal. It is very close to the city centre and there were many people from the ship in the shopping centre. The weather is deteriorating with very strong winds and travel disruption is expected today and tomorrow. The weather is still headline news on the TV. Seems the safest place for the ship is where it is now and not out in the open water. Been in severe weather in the past and it is not pleasant on a ship. Cruise Junky Posted October 27, 2013 #20 Share Posted October 27, 2013 Is this very unusual for this time of year? we're on this sailing next year, same time frame on Emerald. Maybe this route is best done in the spring?
Whiteowl Posted October 27, 2013 #21 Share Posted October 27, 2013 I did a transatlantic at this time of year a while ago and the Atlantic was silky smooth the whole way across. We do get storms at this time of year but normally much further north around Scotland. It is unusual to get such a big storm this far south. The last storm of this magnitude this far south was in 1987.

driscruisers Posted October 27, 2013 #24 Share Posted October 27, 2013 My parents are currently on the Crown... Just heard from them a little while ago that getting back on the ship from shopping was a cluster bc so many people had gotten off.. Weather was starting to deteriorate again. What I find interesting is that the Independence of the Seas was in port with the Crown yesterday and they pushed off and headed to LeHavre as scheduled and is currently there. The Adventure of the Seas came on this morning and has now also pushed off and is headed out. I guess the captain of the Crown figures better ere on the side of caution... LMaxwell Posted October 27, 2013 Author #25 Share Posted October 27, 2013 From relatives onboard "Captains message: Besides weather, we were supposed to refuel in Lisbon, but since we are not stopping there we not have enough fuel to get to Florida. Depending on when we can leave he has to figure out where to stop that has fuel available. No answers to this issue yet." And yes, they just waited over 2 hours to re-board the ship. Weather is one thing, no man controls weather, but it seems Princess is dropping the ball a bit on logistics otherwise.
