Legend Review 6/30/05

First and foremost I would like to thank all on these boards who provided such a wealth of information! DH thought I was crazy studying and planning prior to the cruise!

EMBARKATION - Not nearly the nightmare I expected in NYC. We arrived at the pier at about 10:30 AM. Passangers from the prior cruise were still getting off - then the weddings got on followed by the travel agents. We were onboard and eating lunch by 12:30 PM! We had sailed out of NYC in April, 2004 on the Legend and arrived at the pier at 2PM - needless to say we had quite a wait. Arriving early is DEFINITELY the way to go!

CABIN - We were in cabin 8273 - a wraparound balcony Category 11 suite. I don't think I can ever have a regular balcony again!! I was concerned about the amount of noise we might hear from the Lido deck, directly above us - however there was hardly any noise. The first night there were some cigarette butts and trash on the deck. We went to the purser to see if anything could be done about it. After that, I think I found one teabag on the balcony. Our cabin steward, Eusebio, was phenomenal - treated us just like royalty! (and did a great job keeping the cabin clean, too!)

We had early seating for dinner - tables 133 and 135 (there were a total of eight in our group). Our waiters were Martin and Roxani who were both wonderful! We ate dinner in the dining room every night except the second formal night. My sister-in-law won the drawing at the past guest party and it was a complementary dinner for two in the Golden Fleece supper club. She gave it to DH and myself as an anniversary gift. The supper club is amazing - definitely something you should try at least once during the cruise - even with the $30 pp fee. I must say, however, the food in the regular dining room was very good - even better than the last time we were on the Legend.

Our second day at sea, DH decided to use the whirlpool tub. He thoroughly enjoyed it, however we did notice that a puddle developed in our walk in closet. Maintenance came to the room, and apparently a pipe was leaking. They promptly fixed it, however we did have a huge fan in the room to dry the carpet for the next few days! Fortunately none of our belongings got wet, as we spotted the puddle right away and were able to move shoes, etc, out of the way. The purser's office sent us a fruit basket for the inconvenience.

PORTS:

SAN JUAN - We did not have any excursions planned for San Juan so half the group took a cab to the beach and the other half attempted to take a cab to Barrachina Village. Now keep in mind it was July 4th weekend and San Juan was very busy. The group who went to the beach were somewhat disapointed in the beach, very crowded. The rest of us were in a cab which got stuck in traffic - we went two blocks in 30 minutes. At that point the cab kept stalling and the air conditioning broke down. After another 15 minutes we decided to get out and walk - probably should have done that from the beginning! It was quite hot and humid - after all it is July and this is the Caribbean! We did a little shopping then returned to the ship - never did find Barrachina Village!

ST THOMAS - Now this was the highlight of our trip!! We had booked a private excursion through Godfrey tours. I cannot recommend them highly enough!! Tony was our guide and met us at the ship at 9 AM. First he took us to the shopping area for about two hours. Just want to add a thought here about Diamonds International. Two years ago we had upgraded my engagement ring stone in their branch in Cozumel. We decided to investigate another upgrade while in St Thomas. They tell you they will match the price you pay for the stone, however do not tell you if you want to upgrade you need to spend at least that amount again (i.e., if you bought a stone for $6000, you need to spend another $6000 on top of that). Now I am not unhappy with the stone we purchased two years ago, but did not want to spend all that money (could be better used for more cruises!!) After we shopped, Tony took us on a tour of the entire island. He was very informative and enjoyable - he truly loves his island! Our last stop was Sapphire Beach which is quite beautiful! We spent a few hour there, then it was back to the ship. I wish we had more time in St Thomas - what a beautiful island!

TORTOLA - Again, we had no excursions booked. My brother and sister-in-law did get off the ship and walk around a bit, however time is short in Tortola. The rest of us stayed on the ship. It was quite windy that the water was very rough - I believe it was the effects of "Dennis". The captain did a great job of avoiding the bad weather - at one point on the way back I think we were traveling at about 26 kts!

I must say we did enjoy this cruise! The entire staff was very pleasant and helpful. The only one none of us were crazy about was the CD - Brett Alans - very annoying - but that is just my opinion!

The Legend is a great ship - yes there are alot of urns and it is very glitzy - but what the heck - you're on a cruise!!

Thanks for your review! I have been watching the message boards for some current reviews as we are sailing on the Legend on 7/24. MY DH also thinks I am crazy for all this studying and planning prior to the cruise, but these boards are very helpful! Thanks again and glad to hear you had a great time!

Glad you enjoyed your cruise. We're sailing 7/24 and these next few days are pure torture to get through.

Looking forward to our Godfrey Tour as well in St. Thomas. We've opted for Sapphire Beach as well. Heard good things about this beach at the St. Thomas forum.

That would have been us! We had SUCH a great time (6/22) I relived it and wondered how the next group was doing allllllll week.

I am finishing up the scrapbook today.

thanks for the review!!!! I'm glad you had such a wonderful time. We are leaving on the 16th and I anxiously scan these boards for any info.

just a few questions....

Did you notice how much it cost to parasail at Sapphire Beach? We are torn between snorkeling at Sapphire Beach or going on a private sailboat. I, of course, want to be pampered on the sailboat but the kids want to try to parasail if it is not too expensive. What to do..what to do???

How does one get to Sapphire Beach if not on the Godfrey tour?

Why is Brett Allans so terrible?? I've read it many times....scary.

6 more days for me!!!

I did not notice the pricing for parasailing at Sapphire Beach - sorry. Perhaps you could check the St Thomas forum - that is where I found out about Godfrey tours.

Once you get off the ship, there are several taxis there - all offering to take you anywhere you want to go.

Brett Alans - hmmm what can I say? I just found him annoying - but again, that is just my opinion.

Enjoy your cruise!!!
