Are there benefits to PVP or TA vs booking yourself?

There are so many experienced cruisers out there, I'm sure I'll get a lot of feedback on this....

Just wondering if there is any benefit to using your PVP vs using a TA vs booking yourself.

I usually call directly to cruise line and do great.

BUT, I got a call the other day from someone that says they are my PVP! I felt pretty special!

Any comments?

Thanks!

in all of the trips i booked, i used a TA twice and i hated it. Every thing has to be done through them like a price adjustment or a adjustment with dinning times, etc

i find it easier to either book it myself or use a carnival pvp

The biggest benefit I see to using a PVP is being able to email them when I need something. I like to email if my request is not urgent because it is so convenient and I have written documentation of the response for whatever I asked for. I can send the email when it is convenient for me and she can respond when it is convenient for her. I don't have to play phone tag. And even if I book through my PVP, I still have the flexibility to call the 800 number and speak to whomever answers the phone if I have an urgent need and my PVP isn't available. If you book through a travel agent, there can be frustrating delays while you wait for them to get around to your request, and in most cases, Carnival will not help you directly if you booked through a travel agent. Some PVPs are better than others though.

If you have a specific cabin number in mind and that cabin is not listed when trying to book online, your PVP can tell you if it is truly available or not. Depending on the number of cabins available in a specific category, the web site only shows a subset of them. In my experience thus far, calling my PVP has worked out for me twice. ;)

I always use a TA and get $50 to $100 extra OBC over Carnival direct.

Use the larger more well known TAs. Always ask if they process your credit card or if the cruise line processes it directly. Never work with a TA that charges your card. The charge should be direct from Carnival.
