melody hounddog Posted October 29, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 29, 2013 Is it possible to see both Leeds Castle and the Canterbury Cathedral as a day trip from London? We are fine taking the train. Thanks.
Twickenham Posted October 29, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 29, 2013 As long as you plan out your train times properly, I think it would be very doable.
DorneyBoy Posted October 30, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 30, 2013 Premium Tours, Evan Evans and International Friends all run year round day tours from London visiting Leeds Castle, Dover and Canterbury. If you are cruising into Dover International Friends and London Toolkit run a tour transfer meeting Princess, Holland America and Crystal cruise ships at Dover and visiting Canterbury and Leeds Castle before dropping at London and Heathrow hotels
Cshgrand Posted November 4, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 4, 2013 To make the most of your day, take an early train from St Pancras to Canterbury West. You can arrive into Canterbury early before things open and explore the city walls etc. in fact depending on the time of year this would probably be preferable, it's so hard to stop and look at stuff as the middle of Canterbury is pedestrianised and has a very steady flow of people most of the day. We are fine taking the train. Thanks. Hello Melody Hounddog, We took a marvelous trip with Premium Tours. They picked us up promptly at our hotel in London dropped us at a central bust station where we waited briefly before boarding our bus for Leeds Castle, Dover, Canterbury and Greenwich. We lunched had plenty of time to stroll the grounds and tour Leeds Castle actually got in ahead of the crowds. We had about 45-minutes additional to explore. We lunched in Dover, saw the White Cliffs, then set out for Canterbury where we had two hours to enjoy the area. Our final stop was Greenwich for an hour or so and then a boat ride up the Thames. I would highly recommend Premium Tours, our guide Ian was very interesting and knowledgeable of the history. I would absolutely book with this company on our next trip to London. Jonathan Thanks for the recommendation. I checked out their website and it looks to be perfect. I have a couple of questions for you. It says that lunch is not included. Do you still have to eat in the group or can you pick your own place and eat with just your family? It says that it is a 11 hr tour. What time did you get back to your hotel? Thanks
Stelladoro Posted November 12, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 12, 2013 Hi, I'm not Cruiserking, but thought I'd chime in. We did a similar tour with Evans Evans two years ago. We had time on our own in Canterbury, including lunch. It's definitely a long day, but well worth it. We returned to London late afternoon and were stuck in rush hour traffic. As the traffic was literally gridlocked near the Tower of London, we asked the driver to let us off the bus. We took the London tube to get back to our hotel, which was probably a faster transportation option.
Kevin's girl Posted November 13, 2013 #8 Share Posted November 13, 2013 We are considering doing this tour from Golden Tours. It seems to go all of the places we want to go and does it in a reasonable amount of time. They go to Leeds castle, Canterbury,, Dover and even a boat to Greenwich. I also thought the price was very fair. http://www.goldentours.com/leeds_castle_canterbury_dover/
