BDL Posted October 29, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 29, 2013 If the band can't stop smoking long enough to play then that's their problem  In all seriousness though, I think Royal will probably end up with more passengers, not less. And don't forget about those folks who only booked inside cheap cabins and will now book balconies that they can actually use.

squadron Posted October 29, 2013 #9 Share Posted October 29, 2013 Huh? Handled better how? Notification was given long befor anyone was in a penalty phase. Precisely what facts is your statement based upon? Agreed. Also smoking has become an almost socially unacceptable habit and is not allowed in and near public buildings and venues so I fail to see what the rationale is that it that should be allowed on balconies. If I understand the policy there is still one side of the ship that has a smoking area. What cruise line are people supposedly flocking to? cruzeluver Posted October 29, 2013 #10 Share Posted October 29, 2013 I can't speak for anyone else, but I love to see one smokin' band! And on another note, so glad Royal has further restricted smoking on their ships. Anyone who does not like it has other options and those who were already booked were given more than adequate notice. Elizanessie Posted October 29, 2013 #11 Share Posted October 29, 2013 Huh? Handled better how? Notification was given long befor anyone was in a penalty phase. Precisely what facts is your statement based upon? Sorry but this is incorrect as not everyone has the same penalty phase. In UK/Europe for example folks who cancel even 365 days before their cruises, lose their deposits. RCCL forgets sometimes about their International Guests.:(

Rare Lionesss Posted October 29, 2013 #14 Share Posted October 29, 2013 I thought it might have an impact, so I daily watch the price of my July cruise....... Guess what? It went up:eek: So if supply and demand dictates the price then could this sailing be filling up? Then no impact felt here (no grounds to prove, just wondering:confused:). travelplus Posted October 29, 2013 #15 Share Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) Lets put it into perspective. Let's say you booked a luxury hotel that sent out a notice that smoking will be banned after January 1st would you cancel your reservation lose your non refundable tickets etc? I think not. Royal Caribbean gave just about 6 months notice. I have allergies to tobacco and this move is great. If you are a smoker just go to the designated area. It's not like your on an airplane or stuck in an airport with nowhere to smoke. Too many people think the worst and don't want to make the extra effort to go from the comforts of your balcony to the designated smoking area. Are smokers so selfish and don't think about the people like me who can go into a coughing fit after inhaling the smoke and tobacco? Think about the others. There is smokers etiquette if a non smoker asks you politely to smoke away from them then please do so because you don't know if that person can have a severe reaction Just like peanuts if you are asked on the plane not to open them then please don't as its for a reason. Royal has made this rule and if you don't follow it then be prepared to pay the fine. I for one really think people are wasting their time taking this policy out of proportion. There are 100 percent smoke free hotels and do smokers survive? Yes. If a sign says No Smoking within 25 feet then please do what the sign says whether its raining or not tough luck that is the City Ordinance. Same with Royal Caribbean if they say smoke on the port side and not on your balcony then please do so away from any open door. You need to think about the non smokers as well Edited October 29, 2013 by travelplus

tkportersat Posted October 29, 2013 #18 Share Posted October 29, 2013 My parents were scheduled for August 2014 (Alaska). They cancelled when I told them the news of the new smoking guidelines and rebooked with Carnival. They smoke, I don't. Agreed. MAHA Posted October 29, 2013 #22 Share Posted October 29, 2013 I am frankly very glad to have balconies as non smoking starting in January. The last 2 cruises we have been on, we have had neighbors who chain smoked most of the day and evening on their balconies. We could not enjoy our balcony that we also paid for. I hope they also ban it in the casino as Celebrity does. They have a "non-smoking" area, but you get the second hand smoke and smell there as well. The last cruises also did not have any non smoking nights in the casino, which really bothered us.

tkportersat Posted October 29, 2013 #25 Share Posted October 29, 2013 My husband and I are not fans of smoking either, but I have never been bothered by people smoking on their balconies. In fact this last cruise our room was next to my parents and we had adjoining balconies where they could open the partition so we can share a large balcony and still didn't notice their smoke at all. The only place it sometimes bothered me was the casino. I am frankly very glad to have balconies as non smoking starting in January.
