Want to be visited by the upgrade fairy? Here's how!

Recommended Posts

Found this on Royal's travel agent site:http://loyaltoyoualways.com/cas-upgrades/

Keith:D

Last week an email was sent to D+ and up C&A members advising of the new policy. It said any upgrades would only occur if the C&A members had their preferences set up in the computer.

Yes but if you have a balcony might they just move you to another location that they consider an upgrade and not to a JS  On my Oasis cruise there was only an option to not be moved to a Boardwalk/Central Park..nothing about an upgrade from a balcony to a JS ..Newbie to D+ so not sure if there are more specific options on the website now that I am

Keep in mind that Royal considers a Boardwalk and Central Park balcony to be an upgrade (higher category) than an oceanview balcony. Passengers might not, but Royal does.

Well. Hrumph. There's no category for updating ONLY into another accessible cabin. I have an accessible balcony now, but would LOVE an upgrade to an accessible JS. (There's actually one open on my sailing, but not in my price range).

This passenger most certainly does not.

I know RCI considers balconies on BW and CP to be an upgrade over an ocean view cabin but I did not know that they considered them upgrades from an ocean view balcony.

My Cruises

Profile

It's the last item on the menu on the left "Upgrade Preferences"

Thanks, but I don't have that choice of "upgrade preferences". ??

I have "cruising preferences" and then "onboard preferences".

I also have the choice to enroll in crown and anchor, but I already am a member.

Bad info and not accurate.

Hate to ask the obvious, but are you logged in?

Nope. They are not an upgrade over an Oceanview balcony. Just look at the price differential between the cabins. Just because the letters for the category designation come before the Oceanview balcony letters does not make those cabins superior.

You are correct. They consider it an upgrade from an ocean view cabin and often upgrade OV and insiders to CP and sometimes BW . They do NOT consider it an upgrade from an ocean view balcony, quite the opposite. Actually we prefer BW Balcony very aft on Oasis class, and were called once (Thankfully called first) to upgrade to an OV Balcony. we declined and the next time on the Allure, I had to reset my preference prior to that cruise to no upgrade.

And there lies the "rub"...What I consider an upgrade is a "catagory" upgrade, not a location upgrade in RCI's mind. Balcony to JS or above (etc.)...that's an "upgrade" at least to me ;):)

Do they offer upgrades for anyone other than D and up?

I thought it was D+ and Pinnacle...

The only upgrade I have ever gotten as a D level was booking a JS GTY and was given a GS...which probably isn't what we're talking about or didn't probably have anything to do with my C&A level..Hopefully now that I'm a D+ maybe there's a chance for me but I doubt it since I always seem to book very popular/heavily booked cruises.

they are a tough 'get' I hope we enjoy our 1st one in April:D

thanks OP for posting for the RCCL noobs among us (me) who might not want to be upgraded for whatever reason. I realize chances are slim at best since it's only our 2nd cruise with the line but still good to know.

We booked the Ben & Jerry's Suite on our upcoming Liberty cruise, and when I seen the upgrade possibility, there was no way I want to be upgraded to an ocean view from our promenade room and loose our cow-cierge benefits along with our free ice cream for an ocean view. MOOOOO!!!

I might do it for a balcony or a jr. suite, but it sounds like that wouldn't be possible from a promenade room.:(

Yes :D "Welcome, Eileen" on top and I can view my upcoming December cruise. I signed up for Crown & Anchor over the phone last summer when I realized there was a $100 savings certificate on my cruise. I had never signed up after my first RCCL cruise several years ago.

Don't know why I can't choose upgrade preferences. I do recall that the phone rep answered my questions about upsells and upgrades. I "think" she put me down for a desire to be called for an upsell or upgrade .
