Day in Ft. Lauderdale or Miami with kids?

Hi, all.

 

We will have the better part of a day before our cruise and can spend it in either Ft. Lauderdale or Miami. We are staying in Ft. Lauderdale as that is where our cruise embarks. Anyhow, we've never been to FL but my husband I I have been to South Beach. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do for the afternoon with an 8-year-old and a 14-year-old?

Fort Laderdale is more family friendly than SB -- a day at the beach, maybe a water taxi ride, etc.? :confused:
