northernsw Posted November 3, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 3, 2013 We are considering the 9/28/2014 Pacific Princess sailing from Honolulu to Tahiti, and we have some questions about the smaller ship. How does the smaller ship do in big seas? Are there activities to do during the 5 sea days? Is it an older crowd? Do they do the crossing the equator ceremony? I guess the worry is being bored and/or seasick for 5 days. We have done a couple of TA's on the Ruby, so we can handle many days at sea. Our biggest worry is comfort and enjoyment. The big ships offer us these. Will the smaller ship be a letdown?
caribill Posted November 4, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 4, 2013 We have been on that ship and its twin (the Ocean Princess) several times. Although we have not done the Honolulu to Tahiti run, we had no problems in the areas of the Pacific Ocean we have been on them. Of course, we did not encounter any hurricanes or other very rough seas. At that time of year and on a cruise longer than a week, there will be very few families with children cruising, no matter what ship and what the itinerary. As it is after the main summer vacation time, chances are the passengers will average older than they would during the summer. We have never been bored on these two small Princess ships. They do not have MUTS or a putting green, but do have similar entertainment and activities as the larger Princess ships, just not as many choices at the same time. vancouvergirl2010 Posted November 4, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 4, 2013 That has been our favorite cruise by far. Many onboard were initially worried about being bored for the 5 sea days. But they flew by! There was lots of entertainment on the pool deck, music, games, and an incredible crossing the equator celebration. The crowd was mixed, with only about 15 kids under 18. I don't recall the seas being very rough. Love small ship cruising!
cnd crsr Posted November 4, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 4, 2013 Hawaii to Tahiti is a fantastic cruise. There is the usual entertainment and guest lecturers. It was a pretty calm sea when we did it and something I would do again in a heartbeat! I think you will enjoy the small ship experience.
