Steakhouse on the Liberty

We are going on the Liberty out of P.C. in Nov. of next year. This is the first ship we've been on with a steakhouse and we are really wanting to try it one night.

I am trying to decide the best night to go. I would prefer going to the MDR on the first night and on elegant night as well (don't want to miss the Bitter and Blanc ;) )

The first two cruises we were on were 5 day cruises as well, but they had 2 sea days and 2 ports. Elegant night was on the first sea day.

This upcoming cruise has 3 ports and a sea day on the last night before we return to debarkation port. I was assuming that the sea day will be elegant night but a few people have said that it is most likely going to be the night with the earliest port departure as they generally wouldn't have it the last night of the sailing.

Anyone been on a 5 day with 3 ports and a sea day the final day only? Want to book ahead of time but I want to be sure that I don't book it on elegant night.

I do not know this cruise, so this is only a guess. But I doubt the elegant night will be the last day. My rationale for this is that they want to make money on the pictures, and if they do it on the last night there is no chance to get them printed, displayed and purchased.

From what I have seen, they typically try to have elegant night early on.

Here's what I did. I found menus online (don't remember where) and figured out which night I wouldn't mind missing based on what was being served and went with that.

That is kind of what I was thinking as I didn't want to miss Bitter and Blanc or Elegant night. Thought about trying to find menus. But I didn't know if the menus I find would be in order or not. This is a 5 night cruise, vs the 7 or 8 day I usually see for the Liberty.

Menus are not necessarily in that order. I don't think Bitter and Blanc is served on a formal night.

Is it served on different nights on different ships? I didn't know. It was served on Elegant night on the Elation on both of our cruises.

I guess if I could find menus and knew they were in the order that they are used, I could make the decision.

If most people don't think Elegant night is the last night (only sea day), then maybe I'll schedule it for that night. Ive enjoyed just about everything I've had in the MDR, but would really like to try the Steakhouse.

I know you said you'd prefer to dine in the MDR on the first evening, but you might want to consider making your reservation for the steakhouse for the first evening. Two reasons: First, you get a free bottle of wine (red or white, your choice) with your meal, and second, it'll be less crowded and quieter on the first evening. By the way, two entrees worth considering are the Surf & Turf and the sea bass. Both are excellent!:)

I've learned to go to the steakhouse on port days. I find I eat less during the day when I'm at port than a sea day when all the tempting foods are available all day long.

I have trouble eating everything at the steakhouse as it is, by eating less during the day I'm able to eat more. Be sure and save room for dessert!

So I base the night we go on what we r doing at the port, usually pick the least busy/active port day.

Whichever night I go is my favorite night of the cruise!

Food is great but never thrilled with the desserts they offer.

We were on the Liberty last month and thought the steakhouse was excellent.

Think that worrying about what night to book steakhoue is overthinking things. Always something good at the DR.

LOL Yes, I am quite good at overthinking things

I hadn't thought of it that way. That's a really good idea. We don't usually eat as much when at port either so it would be a good day to choose too.

That said, the first night sounds better than I had originally thought based on everyone saying it isn't as busy. Are blue jeans and a nice shirt acceptable? I have a hard enough time getting DH to dress in anything other than jeans for elegant night

Great. Thanks!! So, I'm assuming that if we do go on the first night, we should at least let our waiter know we will not be in the MDR that night but will return on night 2. Seems the appropriate thing to do anyway.

That would be nice of you. BTW you do get a free bottle of wine the first night in the steakhouse.

not the best, we didnt care for the chardonnay but friends we were with enjoyed their red wine.

That will nice as well. Though I'm really the only wine drinker in our group, so it'll be up to me to drink the bottle (not all that night;)) Have yet to find a Chardonnay that I like so I guess I won't even try that if I already hear it isn't great.

Mostly a red wine kinda gal anyway. Anyone know what kind of red it is? Cabernet? Pinot Noir? Blend?

Don't want to hijack the thread but didn't think my question deserved one of it's own...

I have a reservation for next Saturday on Conquest. We don't sail from San Juan until 10 pm, but because we have a late port day on Sunday (which is my birthday), I decided to celebrate by taking myself to the steakhouse on Saturday. Besides the issue of possibly conflict with muster drill (we don't sail until 10 pm), I have a question...

Is it possible to order two starters and skip the salad, then go on to the entree? I do this all the time in the MDR.

Looking at the menu, I just would prefer to try a couple of starters. I know I won't have room for dessert (I'm not a sweets person anyway).

Just curious!

Actually a good question. Thanks for hijacking :) I'm not much of a dessert person either. While I could certainly force myself to try something from the dessert choices, I would prefer to try two different starters as well.

I assumed that the steakhouse was like the MDR......starter, entrée, dessert and that's it

But you mention starters AND salad. Do you get both in the steakhouse?

You can get two starters and lose the salad.

Excellent!

I do this all the time in the MDR. I love the chilled fruit soups so I often get two appetizers and no salad. In fact, I've been known to have an entire dinner of multiple appetizers. I know it probably makes more work for the poor wait staff, but someimes, the entrees just don't appeal to me. When I get dessert, it is often the cheese plate.

I do love the Bitter-n-Blanc, though. I don't really care for chocolate, so no melting cake for me.

First night dessert in MDR is creme brulee - another of my favorites. I guess I'll just have to suffer without it this time. :p

If you ask the headwaiter very often they can make creme brulee for another night.
