5waldos Posted November 13, 2013 #26 Share Posted November 13, 2013 Laundry is included in Silver Suites only on this ship. Sorry.... Thanks- that makes more sense to me.
Liquid Amber Posted November 13, 2013 #27 Share Posted November 13, 2013 Many thanks carefreecruise for taking the time to give us so much information. Your cruise is going to be unforgettable on many fronts, it all adds to the spice of life! Like noscare, we are on board in December. I take it there weren't enough names for a meet and mingle? ppiew Posted November 13, 2013 #28 Share Posted November 13, 2013 thank u so much carefreecruiser - ever so helpful. Curious about the tipping - who is getting the handfuls of $10 and $20 tips? we too r going to Machu Picchu. down on the Hiram Bingham and back to Cuzco on the Vistadome. is this what u did? We have an oxygenated room in Cuzco (I think) will this help? Gotta remember alarm clocks for sure with the early rising!! I understand that Silvers will have laundry service, but can others also have the service, but be willing to pay? when boarding the ship, do u need to be wearing water shoes? On the land excursion with A&K tours, someone will meet you at the airport, someone will be carrying your bags, another person will be driving the car and you will get a personal guide to walk with you. So you will needs lots of tipping money. Oxygen bottles are at the hotels and on the train, just walk slower than normal to help with not getting sick. You will have NO time in any of the hotels to get laundry service, will have to wait till you get on the ship. Silver suites have free laundry (others will pay $4:00 to $6:00 for shirts, $2:50 for underwear, socks $2:00 and $3:50 for T-shirts just a few prices so you can get a feel for it) Water shoes will be needed for wet landings but may not even be needed for that. Some people are barefoot for water landing and then take there boots out of their backpack after they get on shore. Could you tell us a little bit about the typical daily schedule onboard? Really hard due to they change from day to day. But usually and early departure around 7:30 in the morning, back around 10 AM, then snorkeling, kayaking, then lunch, moving to a new island, then afternoon excursions with hicks, back for diner then lectures on the days events and letting you know what to expect about the next days events.... duct tape Posted November 13, 2013 #33 Share Posted November 13, 2013 Since laundry service is available, Venetians with more than 100 days still receive complimentary laundry, per usual, I assume. If you could find out, that would be helpful. Enjoying your posts.

They say after Feb of next year, things will change to comply with Silver Sea standards. Right now things are in flux...

Venetians members will receive FREE laundry service with the Silver Suite rooms. That's the latest. There have been a few members pushing it today. 5waldos Posted November 14, 2013 #38 Share Posted November 14, 2013 But...silver suite rooms get free laundry any way I thought??? Or was that an odd coincidence? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
carefreecruise Posted November 14, 2013 Author #39 Share Posted November 14, 2013 But...silver suite rooms get free laundry any way I thought??? Or was that an odd coincidence? In the silversea normal world. in large suites and long time Ventians members laundry is included. This new Silver Galapagos ship is testing the limits with constant changing items included in the voyage. pay no attention to the advertise papers. At this point today they are retreating to their normal plan. Laundry is included with Ventian members and Silver Suites guests. At least it brings some normality to the cruise. Boy if that isn't the truth! One day everyone gets expresso machines, the next day everyone gets water. One day afternoon canapés upon request for everyone, the next day- maybe not. I keep checking to see what else they have taken away- I note that nothing has yet been added. Just checked the website again and the inclusions listed on the deck plan have been changed again- now it still lists wifi and but has dropped the notation that it is at an added cost- which apparently is not correct. Some employees are asking for more time to iron things out. Say by March 2014 should be done by then. By the way the expresso machine in our cabin doesn't work anyway... Some varnishing was done and many guest were complaining, requesting room changes to floors that had balconies. I stayed away from the reception desk, too much yelling... Right now I can see how hard it is; there were only 12 of us that stayed for the week. 60 people got off and 72 got on mid week. One Dutch couple stayed on for two weeks to see islands on both voyages. Looks like they saw penguins the week before we got on board. carefreecruise Posted November 14, 2013 Author #46 Share Posted November 14, 2013 (edited) better picture hopefully you can read the name on the side. They cut the letters out of steel, welded them on and painted it last night. Edited November 14, 2013 by carefreecruise

carefreecruise Posted November 15, 2013 Author #48 Share Posted November 15, 2013 Good job reporting carefreecruise, I am hoping you have some photos of inside cabins, bathrooms, restaurant etc. :) Was planning on taking lots of pictures of room and public areas but after seeing it. There is no angle or lighting that's going to make it look good. So just think of it as a working expedition ship and you won't be disappointed. Maybe in a few years they will have it completely done.
