Happyladi Posted November 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 11, 2013 I'm sailing on Serenade of the Seas in January. I have read in some reviews that lobster is no longer a free entree? Is this correct?
Aquahound Posted November 11, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 11, 2013 That's not true wrt the usual lobster. The up charge is for Maine lobster. It's a MDR option, like the Chops steak.
dacsmom Posted November 11, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 11, 2013 I had two on the regular menu in February, it is part of the fishermans plate and they were tasty. I saw people ordering from the Chops upcharge menu but I did not try it
renee1222 Posted November 11, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 11, 2013 The Serenade has been in the Mediterranean all summer, and there is not a regular lobster option (other than the upcharge) on European cruises. The Serenade will soon reposition to New Orleans to begin caribbean cruises. There will be lobster available at no charge on the 7 night caribbean cruises on the 2nd formal night. RoyalDiamond Posted November 11, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 11, 2013 You'll see it on the menu every night for purchase, but the "fisherman's plate" is typically offered (no charge) on one night of the cruise....5-nights or longer, I believe. And not in Europe, I think.
cb at sea Posted November 11, 2013 #6 Share Posted November 11, 2013 The lobstertail is server on longer cruises....typically on the 2nd formal evening. There is no additional charge for the lobstertail. There is an upcharge lobster, but that's not the same thing as what's included in your fare. Shorter cruises, and some European cruises do NOT serve lobstertail.

jonbgd Posted November 11, 2013 #8 Share Posted November 11, 2013 Who would pay for an upgraded Maine lobster when the other lobster is free:confused:
Ourusualbeach Posted November 11, 2013 #9 Share Posted November 11, 2013 Who would pay for an upgraded Maine lobster when the other lobster is free:confused: There is quite a difference in quality between the Maine lobster and the Caribbean lobster. Also the Maine lobster is available every night while the Caribbean lobster is only available one night.
leaveitallbehind Posted November 11, 2013 #10 Share Posted November 11, 2013 (edited) Shorter cruises, and some European cruises do NOT serve lobstertail. More accurately, lobster is offered in the MDR on the regular menu at no charge on all US based itineraries of 5 nights and longer. Lobster is not offered in the MDR on the regular menu at no charge on European based itineraries. negc Posted November 11, 2013 #11 Share Posted November 11, 2013 Who would pay for an upgraded Maine lobster when the other lobster is free:confused: Anyone who recognizes and appreciates the difference between succulent Maine lobster and the "rock lobster" that makes up a portion of the fisherman's platter. The latter, however, is now a larger version than what was previously served on the fisherman's platter.
xxoocruiser Posted November 11, 2013 #12 Share Posted November 11, 2013 (edited) I'm sailing on Serenade of the Seas in January. I have read in some reviews that lobster is no longer a free entree? Is this correct? A small lobster tail is included at no charge with the Fisherman's Platter gernerally served on one of the formal nights on US Cruises of 5 nights or longer. This is not offered on European cruises. A full Maine Lobster can also be purchased in the MDR any night of the week cruises orginating from the USA. Think the charge is around $30.00 Edited November 11, 2013 by xxoocruiser
