Carnival Conquest Western Caribbean Review with tons of photos

Recommended Posts

We had previously decided to stay on the ship during Grand Cayman as we'd already been to Grand Cayman before on our honeymoon cruise. It was actually the first time I had ever ridden a horse! So we wanted to experience what the ship was like while most people got off. We ended up doing a cruise ship first. We went in a hot tub for the first time! We watched Everybody Loves Raymond on the big screen from the hot tub. Then we got out and sat in the lounge chairs and watched Cheers.

We love staying on board in ports that we have visited before, almost seems like you have the ship to yourself!! Love the review, we will be on her in a few days!!!

You go all the way forward past all the rooms on Deck 7 and you will see a door leading outside. I believe there was a door on both the port and starboard sides.

Well gesh...now it isn't a secret anymore!!! Lol....

Have you ever been to Paradise Point at St. Thomas? Their Bushwacker is like a milkshake. If you like Mocha Chocolate Getaway, you would probably like that.

Great review! Thanks for sharing. Go Red Sox!

Yes, I went to Paradise Point in St. Thomas on my Liberty cruise last year. Here's a pic of me with the Bushwacker. I have to say, though, that the Bushwacker packs quite a punch. I wasn't feeling too hot leaving Paradise Point and I think the Bushwacker was to blame!

Great review so far - I was on Conquest on the Dec 15 sailing and agree with so much of what you are saying :)

BUT -= when I boarded I tried to order a Mocha Getaway at the Rum Bar (while enjoying a Guys burger)...and the curt bartender told me "we are out of the ingredients"...ouch so I had ice tea - later that afternoon I tried at the lobby bar and they made me a yummy Getaway - the nice gal told me that the bartender at Rum bar MAY have been out of the ingredients but the whole ship surely was not(whew haha)....

I thought I might miss the "serenity" area but I really did not, I liked the aft adult pool area. We had warmer weather - and it was nice in the islands

so pool was good

I thought I might miss the sushi bar but found I enjoyed the taste bar even more :)

Entertainment was my major problem - tho I did enjoy the duo a lot. Govt Shutdown was pretty good - when they played - they used them for the superstar karaoke and some of the singers were better than the "Playlist" people

If you thought Divas was bad - you ain't seen nuttin yet - watching them butcher the Latin show was painful to watch -

Good for you to stick out Hasbro - I left it - I think those who enjoyed it might have had a friend or relative as contestants?

I too found the line up for comedy to be too daunting and ended up seeing only one performance of the last 2 comedians on board

I loved the seaday brunch (not so much the service)...thought the food was really good - especially the salmon benedict and yup tomato soup

I enjoyed the strawberry bisque and will miss it

I have real reservations about future Carnival cruises when I think of seeing those same awful shows and Hasbro again <sigh>

On our cruise the passengers were more talented than the entertainers LOL

I thought the food on Conquest was for most part really really good

I think certain bars can't make Mocha Chocolate Getaways because they don't have the blender for the ice maybe? Like I know you can't get one in the EA Sports Bar.

I missed Serenity a little bit. There was one point when I really would have enjoyed sitting on the comfy wicker furniture. Although I didn't miss it as much as I thought I would. It might have actually been a bit too windy to stay up there for long.

I had the *displeasure* of watching Latin Nights on the Glory last year.

I actually only stayed for one game of the Hasbro because it is boring unless you are participating.

Comedy is our favorite on ships, so we braved the line most nights once we understood how the whole line up process worked.

Yes, I too am leary about the main shows. I remember really enjoying the shows on the Pride and Freedom back before 2.0 and Playlist Productions.

Thanks for your review, I'm really enjoying it as we'll be on her on 2/2 for our anniversary cruise. One thing I haven't seen lately, do you know who the piano bar player is and did you hear him/her play. We really enjoy the piano bar on our cruises. Thanks for you pictures, too. They're great!:)

Happy anniversary! We had planned on going to the piano bar, but never did. We heard snippets of him as we passed by. I will check my Fun Times when I get home to see if they listed his name.

Enjoying the review.

I think some bars may lack the chocolate required for the MOcha Chocolate Getaway.

That could be true, too. And what's a Mocha Chocolate Getaway without the CHOCOLATE?! ;)

We got to Cozumel early. I think it was a little after 9 a.m. I went to the top decks to take a few pictures and then returned to the room with cinnamon buns for DH and I and hot chocolate for me (our breakfast of choice).

We got off the ship a little after 10 a.m. and wandered around the shopping area. I bought a magnet for our collection and proudly told DH that I conducted the whole transaction in Spanish. I went up to the counter and said "Hola!" The lady at the counter said "Tres dolares" and I handed over three bucks and then said "Gracias!" Three years of high school Spanish finally paid off! Lol!

DH got a bracelet for his daughter and a pen for his son. We didn't do any excursions here and didn't venture out of the cruise shopping area. We wanted to play it low key and not spend much money as we had excursions planned for the next two ports.

We headed back to the ship just as some rain droplets started to fall.

DH and I had our usual lunch fare: Guy's burger for him and deli turkey sandwich for me. Here's what we had for dessert:

We saw the Ecstasy pulling in so I watched that while DH went back to the room for a nap. I'm a cruise ship geek so watching her pull in was fascinating! I talked to a nice gentlemen on Deck 10 as we both watched her pull in. I also have a short video which I will post.

It was quite windy out, so after I watched Ecstasy pull in, I went to the room for a sweatshirt and then read my Kindle on the Promenade Deck 5 for about a half hour. Then I came back to the room, put on jeans and took a brief nap. I'm not sure if it was because of the wind or what, but there was a lot of motion in our room while tied to the pier. It was like "BANG, bounce, bounce, bounce." Drove me nuts so I headed to Lido deck (DH was still napping) and got a hot chocolate (I was pleasantly surprised that the hot chocolate machine is in service all day, whereas they change out the juice machines) and sat up by the seaside theater for a bit.

Then I watched RCL's Grandeur of the Seas leave. After that I wandered Promenade Deck t for a bit and went back to the room at 4:30 p.m., but had just missed DH! I went back up to Promenade Deck 5 and after about 5 minutes caught back up with DH where he handed me a piece of paper. On it it said that our Xunantunich Mayan ruins tour had been cancelled because due to heavy rains, the water level of the river you have to cross to get to the ruins had risen and local authorities closed the site for safety reasons.

DH and I checked the shore excursions book and decided to go with the Altun Ha Mayan Site and City Tour instead. This one had a shorter bus ride and didn't last all day. We were able to book this at guest services and were automatically refunded for Xunantunich.

Then I bought two photos and got a free gift of a luggage tag with holographic dolphins and a ship on it.

For supper I had Cesar salad, farfalle with turkey and tiramisu. DH had Cesar salad, pork steak and coconut cake and orange sherbert. I love the farfalle and was pleasantly surprised with how yummy the tiramisu was.

We went back to the room for 45 minutes and then saw a comedian hypnotist, Asad. I always love hypnotists and the show was funny. I wish it lasted a bit longer, though. It seemed too short and a lot of it was him putting the people under. The funniest part I got a short video of which I will add later.

1526625_10152198651849721_1678911314_n.jpg

After that, DH got a t-shirt and mug and I got a license plate holder that says "My other car is a cruise ship." We then got ice cream cones on Lido and then went back to the room. We watched a few minutes of American Idol. I set out the room service breakfast tag on the door. It was a pretty smooth ride in our aft room that night, just a slight rolling.

So you just got off in Cozmuel to be by the ship? I hope I am not getting my reviews mixed up.

I like your pictures that you were in by the cruise ship.

Yes, we got off in Cozumel and just stuck around the shopping area by the ship, Puerta Maya. We had excursions planned for the next two ports.
