Oasis Photo Review – All Dining and Drinks Menus - Daily Programs

Recommended Posts

Had lunch in the main dining room. Much more civilised and very acceptable. On sea days they offer Brasserie 30, the idea being they guarantee to serve you in 30 minutes, if that's what you want... but I don't! Why rush one of life's great pleasures, eating good food?

All were very enjoyable with the fish being my favourite. Pasta Special of the Day can be good and I had one later in the cruise. Another very good option is the Tutti Salad!, prepared with your own selection of ingredients from an extensive display, then tossed in front of you with your choice of dressing.

your review gets better and better!! I agree that the Barramundi is wonderful. The first time I had it was on the Allure last year in Chops, was my favorite dish of the cruise. Your photos are excellent. Camera? and what post process do you use? I think I take some good shots (Allure 1-6-13 with pictures) but I have seen some of your shots that I am going to shoot when I cruise in March on the Oasis

Hi Dreamymom,

You must be so excited, I wish I was going too. Sorry my review won't be finished before you go. However if you have any specific questions or if there are photos of anything in particular you would like, please ask and I will try to help.

No matter what, you will have an unforgettable experience. Enjoy!

Good morning comxkid,

I have written many long reviews before but hadn't appreciated how time-consuming it is to collate and edit photos, upload to Photobucket, scan, e-mail and edit documents. After Day 1, I thought I had bitten off more than I could chew but I am now determined to see it through properly to the end, no matter how long it takes. Especially as I have lots of nice photos I want to share. I am sorry the prose has suffered under pressure, but seems a little less important with all the photos included.

megacruiser

I know exactly what you mean. The first couple of days of my Live Review I thought "what did I get myself into???" It does take time to write a review, edit pictures, and load them to Photobucket. I am thoroughly enjoying your review and appreciate the amount of time you are dedicating to this endeavor. I am posting a link over on my roll call for people to check your review out.

Thanks Again!!!! :D

Lisa

Thanks for your review. I've never had lunch in th MDR before and it looks good. Is the brasserie 30 menu the same everyday or does it change?

Thank you for the amazing review so far! My friends and I are sailing on Oasis on 5 April, it will be my first cruise! Reading yours and other reviews I'm thinking maybe I will be spoiling all future cruises for myself on this magnificent ship!

While I have never cruised before I have always been fascinated by it and am 100% sure I will not be able to get enough once I start. Your review is helping this eager 1st-time cruiser bear the last month+ of waiting until I can finally step onboard.

Oh, and I must second the others on your photos, they are really quite stunning. I can appreciate the quality of the camera, and your eye for a good shot!

I am really enjoying your review and beautiful pictures. Thank you very much for taking the time to do this. I know it must be very time consuming.

I will be on the Oasis the end of March for the first time. I sailed on the Allure 2 years ago and was amazed by it. Now I can't wait to go on the Oasis.

Again thank you = looking forward to reading more.

Thanks for the positive feedback and I can assure you all the daily programs will be included and menus for all restaurants. In fact if you are a food lover, I think this review will be especially helpful, particularly on Specilality Dining.

Can't wait to see this aspect of your review. Waiting for dining options to come up on my upcoming cruise and I was considering what to select. I was leaning towards the Chef's Dining Package and your review of the Chef's Table looked like that may be the right choice (although, really, I'm not a big foodie - I just want good food and an interesting experience.)

I admit I was reading quickly - did you say you were traveling alone? I will be.

Thanks for taking the time to post your review!

Once again, my apologies for more delay. Do you ever get so frustrated with technology that you feel you are losing your marbles?

It was my day off yesterday and I spent most of the day finding and editing pictures. However every time I then tried to upload them to Photobucket, it kept reverting to the originals. Transpired something went wrong and folders were duplicated and to cut a very long story short, I gave in at 1am. A good night’s sleep has helped and I think I have mastered it, so fingers crossed... :)

Deck 3

Opus 3 and Opus 4 are used for traditional fixed seating dining: main seating normally at 6pm and late seating at 8.30pm. Opus 5 is MyTime Dining.

As I mentioned earlier, the inside feel to this three-tiered dining room compared to Voyager and Freedom Class ships is less open and dramatic, as it doesn’t have the same sense of being one colossol towering room with a cavernous central well inter-connecting each level. Design compromises have I am sure played a part here, as they probably needed to retain some of that central void to accommodate extra diners. As you will see from the photos, levels four and five above are quite close together in the middle but at least they didn’t lose the effect altogether by just make each floor separate and self-contained.

Deck 4

Opus 4, Opal Theatre, Studio B, Jazz on 4, Comedy Live, Casino, Blaze.

Blaze is the nightclub and on this sailing it was brought into use for the Diamond members evening get-togethers. This for me is probably the most disappointing venue on board when compared to the two level nightclubs on Voyager and Freedom Class. The normal imagination and striking design is lacking here. It is a fairly non-descript rectangular room in a drab overly red colour, opening up to a curved dance floor area that protrudes externally into the hallway opposite Comedy Live. During the social meeting this section was laid out with tables for food offerings. I didn’t use the venue late at night – only looked in once after 11pm and it was very quiet.

Looking from the entrance of Blaze you face Jazz on 4. This sounded very appealing to me as I love Jazz and I ought to have used it more but was so busy, I didn’t get a chance – maybe next time…

To the right of Jazz on 4 is the Comedy Live venue then Studio B.

JanFeb14087_zps3000519e.jpg

The Comedy Live venue is small and it seems to be difficult to get bookings, so people queue up on standby for no-shows. Ten minutes before the performance is due to start any empty seats are given to those standing in line. I turned up 11 minutes before my show time and the tension in the queue was palpable and as I entered the looks of disappointment directed my way bordered on resentment, because one more person waiting would have to be turned away!

Passengers can of course use Studio B for skating when Ice Shows aren’t on.

Casinos are not my thing, but here is a glimpse.

The Casino is craftily located to catch those exiting both Opus 4 and Studio B – I know because I actually made an involuntary visit myself as I tried to leave the ice show…

Thanks Lisa, I am checking it out. Chef's table meal exactly like the one we enjoyed on the 1/24 Legend cruise. H

Ha ha ha ....! :D

And thanks also to Miryam1234.

I re-read eveything s-l-o-w-l-y, and now I found it!

No wonder you can't take a nap without plugging you ear, megacruiser: too close to the action. Well, I hope my Allure cabin will be quiter... I'm two level up luckier than the lucky deck.

Please continue with your review. And don't worry, I read your conversation with your fans, too. Just sometimes I read too fast - too excited!

Thanks again!

Hi anandaindonesia,

Glad to hear back from you and that you realised I was only teasing. :) The noise didn't ruin my holiday and it just persuaded me the Boardwalk wasn't the best location for me, but many will love it. No matter what, you are in for a mind-boggling experience.

Cheers

Your review has the perfect amount of information and opinion. I'll be on the western oasis itinerary in April and I'll be patiently awaiting more advice. Thank you!

Hello and thanks Triplee203. I am so pleased you feel I have the balance right. I always try to give postives and negatives. Some might think too many negatives so far but I assure you the positives are coming, big time. :D

Thank you! This is exactly what I needed. We don't cruise until August but I am so excited!

With all this snow we have here lately it's a wonderful escape to read your review and dream of warm weather!! (As I sit here wearing my jeans,2 heavy shirts and a throw blanket:o)

Thanks toxicfairy, When I am not booked for my next cruise, life can drag a bit. Once booked it's as if the holiday will be savoured many times over before it even starts, as the planning and anticipation builds.

I am presently booked on the Quantum in a single balcony for February 2015, but speaking of bad weather I do wonder if i am taking a risk trying to fly in and out of New York at that time of the year.

Anyway roll on August for you... but not too quickly!

Thank you so much for this great review. I know it is extremely time consuming. Please know it is appreciated and VERY helpful. I'm going on Oasis in June, so this is fantastic!

Thanks nato. Knowing that folk are genuinely interested dispels my concerns that everyone might be thinking... "here we go again - same old, same old".

Thanks again.

Thanks so much for posting. I did pick up the first time that you were on deck 8, but which cabin? We have 9729 booked, so curious to see if that will be our same view.

Thanks again!

Hello shelpt,

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, an almost identical view. Remember maybe not wise to be too high up from the point of view of Boardwalk people-watching or, more importantly, seeing the diving show. It is better seen from as low as possible for maximum visual impact.

Down to the actual food. Overall it was very good, some of it excellent. In my own view I felt there were a couple of over-seasoning issues, not drastic but noticeable. Neither dish was spoiled by these errors, just diminished. Nevertheless not really the sort of basic errors you would expect of a competent chef tasting everything before it leaves the kitchen. As for the wines, a couple were excellent and all accompanied the food very well.

My overall verdict of the Chef's Table experience was that for anyone who loves good food accompanied by appropriate wine, at $85 it was an absolute bargain, because the wine value was at least equivalent to that of the food alone. I dread to think what you would pay for a similar experience in a good restaurant with such personal attention. Over three hours of pleasure were derived from the combination of food, wine, company and interesting background information relating to what we consumed. I would certainly do it again as long as the menu changes. Being a little overly critical, I think there is a hint of pretentiousness and over-hype in the presentation of the whole experience that subliminally conditions you to expect a level of perfection that is not in reality quite fulfilled.

We did OASIS Chef's Table in January. I would agree with you that wine and service were excellent. The foods itself was just OK for us. I was hoping we just got unlucky with our food, but after talking to many other cruisers I would say that if you did other Chef's Tables (on land or at sea on the different line) you may be disappointed. Our food was too salty and a little overcook.

Thank you for your review. Your photos are great. DH and I will be in Oasis November 29th. It will be our first oasis class cruise. Looking forward to the rest of your review.

Hi there luv2zdworld.

Glad to hear you like my photos. I took an interest in learning to take better photos last year and I only really get to practise it on cruises. This new interest has led me towards photo reviews rather than just written. You will see my first effort for QM2 on this site in my stats, but it was nowhere near as involved as this one will be.

Cheers
