jeanlyon Posted March 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 12, 2014 Personally I would use the free Wifi in most ports.
ParCan Posted March 12, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 12, 2014 Many of the bars around the ports offer free wifi. (Some ask that you buy a drink). Just follow the Crew or wonder around until you find one.... I have never had issues updating facebook etc when I'm in ports. There is no "Low Cost" option to communication at sea that I'm aware of. zib_zib Posted March 13, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted March 13, 2014 This may be a really stupid question but,,how do you know if the Wi-Fi is free? :o If you go into the settings on your device. You will see a padlock next to the Wi-Fi symbol. In there is no padlock it could be free to use Sent from my LG-D802 using Forums mobile app
jeanlyon Posted March 13, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Yes it just shows as Open. Don't look at your bank account on it :-) I used it in nearly every port. Your phone should not be allowed to data roam, just wifi only.
ParCan Posted March 13, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 13, 2014 If it has a lock, ask at the bar for the password ;) They will either give it to you or ask you to buy a drink first. Either way it's a win win situation :)

yorvik Posted March 17, 2014 #9 Share Posted March 17, 2014 I think texts on MCP are 50p to send and the same to receive ,so save texting till you connect in port at least. Free wifi is the way to go.
Rosefan Posted March 19, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 19, 2014 When ashore just notice the cafe bars with the "free wi fi" signs it's usually obvious as there are loads of people with notebooks and tablets etc. the waiter will give you the password or the person on the next table usually a p&o passenger. It worked well for me last year round the med. Only had coffee/beer or lunch at a free wifi place. No idea about Caribbean though.
