Is Carnival Gay Friendly

We have been on 6 Carnival cruises over the past several years. We've always had a great time and we've been treated with the utmost respect by staff. My only negative encounter was on our cruise 3-months ago. While in the casino, a drunk redneck made disparaging remarks toward me. He apparently felt it was okay and his rite because he's a professional roofer (what that has to do with anything remains to be seen). He seemed high on an ego trip in front of his friends until I asked him how many times he fell from the roofs he'd been working on that he'd think it was okay to speak to me in the way he had been. His friends shifted to my side and he shut up.

Anyhow, I digress. My husband and I renewed our vows on the ship in January to commemorate 20 years together. Each and every person involved with the ceremony- start to finish-were professional, polite, and genuinely happy for us. The photographer took us to the lido deck for photos (busy area) and every guest in the area showed kindness, enthusiasm, and celebratory comments.

Sooooo.... our experience has been wonderful.

Hubby and I are just off the Carnival Miracle that went to Mexico. It was our first on Carnival, having sailed all the other major cruise lines.

While I was reluctant to book the Miracle, it was perfect as a last minute getaway and only a 45 minute drive to the port. Everything went smoothly and we rarely waited in a line for anything. The food was good, to my surprise and we ate every meal in the buffet.

We ran into other gay and lesbian couples on board and there were LGBT meetings almost daily.

Would I cruise again with Carnival? Based on this trip, yes. And when our friends raise their eyebrows when we tell them we cruised on a Carnival ship, I'll tell them not to knock it until they've tried it.

Wish I was still onboard!

Amen! Carnival is absolutely wonderful and always welcoming of the GLBT crowd. Perhaps it's ego-building for some to only cruise some particular line while dissing another. Frankly, there's little difference between most of the major cruise lines and the price points are frequently within $100 or $200. If one wants to really feel like they've really "arrived, they should be looking at Crystal or Regent Seven Seas. Those are out of my price range for sure, but I can afford all the other major cruise lines (including the gay-beloved Celebrity) and so I look at itinerary and the ship more than anything else. It's nice to mix it up as well and it opens the door to so many possibilities when I don't narrow the field of choices to particular lines. The only mainstream cruises that draw a LOT of gay men are maiden voyages and the repositioning cruises, particularly those across the Atlantic. All you have to do is look at the GLBT Roll Call section to see that most other posts regarding non-gay cruises are rarely replied to, or if they are, only by a few people at most.

I have never had an issue on any cruise or cruise lines. I tend to find most people leave their political opinions and judgements at the port before they get on. Which I really find fascinating. My friend and I can chat up a 22 year old straight dude, or an 80 year old black woman with cross jewelry all over her body and not once was I made to feel uncomfortable. The majority of people are on cruises to have a good time.

I feel bad for some of you reading these comments! Of course there will always be the exception to the rule, Its mainly from the drunk homophobes who can't control their alcohol or their sexual feelings towards men. Best thing to do, is if you ever feel uncomfortable or unsafe because of some a-hole, I would go to security right away. All the cruise lines know gay men and women travel too, and our money spends just as good as straight people's money....and lets be honest, we typically spend MORE and TIP a lot better too! HAHA! Don't let one homophobic punk ruin your good time!

Also I am cracking up at some of these comments. I, too have been hit on by quite a few drunk married dads on the ship. I felt bad for one guy's wife. I told her she has nothing to worry about because he was totally hitting on me, RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER. Ive been bit on the neck in the casino by another drunk husband...came right up to me, hugged me, and bit me like a vampire. I kid you not. lmao. I find at least one drunk playful daddy on every cruise. lmao.

My boyfriend booked us on Carnival Imagination for Nov 2017. I've only been on three cruises on Celebrity, and have to admit, I was a bit nervous to go on Carnival, since its mostly straight couples. I was beginning to have second thoughts, but after reading most of these comments, I feel it might not be so bad. Thanks

The CCL Imagination is a much older ship so you'll probably notice that more than you'll feel uncomfortable as a gay couple on it. I wouldn't rate Carnival based on those older ships and recommend giving their newer ships a try before making comparisons. Carnival, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean are all more mass-market ships that appeal more to families and are definitely a different experience than Celebrity.
