momof3cruisers Posted November 8, 2014 #476 Share Posted November 8, 2014 They have a shuttle. The taxi is only about $6, but they may charge you a minimum of $10. They did us, but we were coming from the port (and then their own shuttle offered to take us to the airport for no charge at the end of the visit. We gave them what a taxi would have been, since we weren't actually staying there, just visiting someone). It is a nice area. Thank you for the info. Shuttles make me anxious--weird I know--so we will probably stick with a taxi. Trying to figure out if we'll need to arrange one ahead of time. sailor1362 Posted November 8, 2014 #477 Share Posted November 8, 2014 Hi everyone, we will spend two nights in FLL before our cruise in January, I have to make a choice between "Comfort suites Airport and Cruise Port" and "the Victoria Park Hotel": they both offer me what I need, and both have good reviews. maybe one is in a better area? CSACP is nearer to airport and cruise port, but more expensive, VPH is cheaper, but I can rent a car for both days and explore the area. Thank you for your help! Either CS or Victoria Park would be good with a car. VP is only a block from Gateway Plaza, which has a few restaurants and boutiques and movie theatre. It's 4 blocks walk to Galleria Mall too. It's an adorable area, but the neighborhood gets a bit run down west of the movie theatre, so don't bother walking past there. The area east of the Middle River bridge is upscale, which is where you'll find the mall. CS is a few blocks walk from the restaurants and stores on SE 17th St.
sailor1362 Posted November 9, 2014 #480 Share Posted November 9, 2014 Thank you very much Sharon, we have finally decided for the Victoria Park; I have read all 24 pages on this thread and didn't notice there was another thread on the Victoria Park! I will have probably more questions, we will stay in FLL for 6 days post-cruise in Dania Beach. PS: how much are 4blocks?

MDavis23 Posted November 10, 2014 #482 Share Posted November 10, 2014 Ok all you knowledgeable cruisers out there. I would love to know the good, the bad, and the ugly about Bahia Mar. We will be staying there two nights post cruise. We are mostly interested in the beach to walk on, and Los Olos to stroll down. Any suggestions and comments, including places to eat, that would be appreciated. We will be staying there a Thursday and Friday night. Thanks! Coconuts is a great place to eat on the water, a few blocks away. Go north/left on A1A. Turn left at the fork at Oasis Cafe onto Seabreaze Blvd. Coconuts is a block or two down on the left side. Another place close by is Bahia Cabana. It's just across the Marina, about 2 blocks south on A1A. Turn at the first street you come to and it's right there on the right. It's also outdoor dining. The food isn't the absolute best in town, but it has a great island ambiance, as well as entertainment.
mtns2sea Posted November 11, 2014 #485 Share Posted November 11, 2014 We will be staying at the Hilton Garden Inn Ft Lauderdale Airport-Cruise Port and was wondering if there is somewhere nearby to buy wine to take on-board. Thanks. We usually stay in Dania beach too, but still go to Total Wine in the Harbor Shops on 17th St. You can order and pay for the wine on their website so your order is waiting for you. If you use a taxi to get to the port, they wait less than 5 minutes for you to pick up the wine.

mtns2sea Posted November 11, 2014 #489 Share Posted November 11, 2014 Thanks clarea and royalcruz. Is it worth it to rent a car for the day or take a cab over to the total wine store? Happy girl2 Posted November 11, 2014 #490 Share Posted November 11, 2014 Has anyone stayed at the Sheraton beach hotel recently please. We have a 2 night booking for the end of January and I am getting more & more concerned about the hotel due to some of the reviews Would love to here from you if you have stayed there recently. This trip is to celebrate my DH 60th birthday & retirement so i want everything to be great. Booked this through Princess so would ask for a change to the Embassy Suite as this was the other hotel offered any thoughts would be a great help. We are cruising out of Miami. Sent from my iPad using Cruise Critic Forums mobile app How are you getting to Miami? If you rent a car in FLL, you would have a car for the day to get around FLL and then could drive to MIA to return the car the day of the cruise. Alamo, National and Thrifty have free shuttles from MIA to the port.

We are cruising out of Miami. Sorry, didn't realize you were cruising out of Miami. The Total Wine in Harbor Shops is very convenient to Port Everglades, but is not on the way to Miami. You're probably looking at a $30-$40 round trip cab fare from Dania Beach, not sure it would be worth it unless you are looking for some very pricey wines. Booked this through Princess so would ask for a change to the Embassy Suite as this was the other hotel offered any thoughts would be a great help. I haven't read the specific reviews you speak of, but I would find it hard to compare the two fairly (having been to both many times when friends visit). They both have their pros/cons. I personally would probably choose Embassy for the "perks" (breakfast, happy hour) but the location isn't as good as the Sheraton on the beach (I still want to call it the Yankee Clipper). But if you like the sun/beach/pool - the Sheraton is way better.

alibabacruisers Posted November 18, 2014 #499 Share Posted November 18, 2014 Hello everyone! We will be cruising into FLL in January and would like to find out how easy it is to get from the port to the closet Walmart (I love Walmart:)) and the cost of a taxi. I tried to Google it and it looks like it is about 10-15 miles. Our ship has a shuttle to the Galleria Shopping Center and we thought that either we would take the shuttle to look around there and then taxi to Walmart and taxi back to the ship OR just take a taxi to and from Walmart bypassing the Galleria...what do you think? I appreciate your help!
alibabacruisers Posted November 18, 2014 #500 Share Posted November 18, 2014 Oh! I just read on another thread that there is a Walmart next to Sawgrass Mills!:) Now have to decide between taxi RT to Sawgrass/Walmart or the ships excursion to Sawgrass. I tried to check the taxi price and saw that it was around $45-50...can anyone verify that? And is that pp or for any number of pp? Thanks again!
