I am tempted to book a world cruise with HA however they appear to be having many more sea days in a row next year then last year.

Has anyone any clue as to what may happen in future years or should I look at other cruise lines

Sidney24 --- Good to know you are interested in a Grand World Voyage on Holland America's ms Amsterdam. I see no "however" that is important. Sea Days are fantastic and a large part of a World Voyage. That's the nature of the beast. If you love the sea, then the sea is a large part of such a trip. A Grand World Voyage is not a mere cruise or a destination. It is the smell of salt, the mist of the ocean, the tossing and turning, the reading of books, trivia, lectures, the casino, and, yes, a touch of boredom. It's gossip. It's intrigue. Who is "Bought-and-Paid-for"? But the ports do show up, and then it's off to the races. End of sermon.

The full itinerary for 2016 is suppose to be out in mid June.

We seem to have a communication problem. I told you about 10 days ago on another thread that the full itinerary for the world cruise 2016 is OUT already and.... since the 3rd week of April. It is published, do you want a copy ????? There is also a thread on the roll call showing the FULL itinerary Under AMSTERDAM WORLD CRUISE 2016.

Give me your email, I will send you the full itinerary that was provided and published by Stein Kruse's office.

Hi

I planted a few tress out back. A 10.00, 20 and 50. Now if I get a lot of leaves (Money)from those trees. I will be booking a world cruise.

I can see many enjoy those sea days and that may be why HA in 2015 have an itinerary that we would not consider ( 8 sea days in a row).

May be time to move on :D

Thanks for the info - my TA checked with HAL last week and was told it would not be published until mid-June.

It's the nature of the world cruise beast to have a lot of sea days, often all at once. 8 may be a bit long, but you need to expect a string of at least 6 somewhere along the way. I just took a look at Crystal's World Cruise, and they top out at 7, perhaps a bit better from your point of view, but not much of a difference.

If you really want to try a World Cruise, you might look at Cunard or (if you can afford it) Crystal, both do sea days significantly better than HAL (not that HAL sea days are bad). You might also try a segment. I'd say go ahead with HAL on that if you're so inclined. One thing I noticed is that there sees to be a bit less difference in the WC experience between full cruisers and segmenters than either Cunard or Crystal.

We haven't had a world cruise (yet!) but we have had some long cruises - 34, 35 & 75 days - and we found that we really needed those sea days! Exploring all of those new ports can be very tiring, and we liked having time between to recuperate ... and get ready for the next one!

I'm not a world cruiser, but do know the reason for the 8 sea day stretch on next year's WC. Past world cruises have stopped at Easter Island, but that's been dropped because of tendering difficulties on past stops or attempted stops there.

Sorry, but I don't know how to highlight two posts and combine them into one reply. That is why I have b2b posts. Thanks Jem for the info about Easter Island.

Sea days are wonderful and if you do not want the length of time at sea - fly to Asia as it does take a while to get across the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.

BTW The 2014 world cruise stopped at Easter Island as scheduled and we had no issues disembarking as the seas were like glass. Very extraordinary and we were so lucky! It was fabulous by the way!

Also, had to call the Grand Cruise line at HAL about something else and asked when the WC for 2016 was going to be open for booking as we loved the itinerary. She asked where we got it and told her that S. Kruse released it on the 2014 WC. Was told that port list was not final yet as they were still working out a few 'issues' but that it should be available mid-June. Hopefully it is just dates for ports.......
