Room Steward, Bambang, on the Zuiderdam

Recommended Posts

Bambang, seems to be getting quite alot of kuddos on these boards(of which I am one). He is the room steward for Deck 6, rooms surrounding 6103, which was ours on the 5/29 cruise. Did any of you cruisers fortunate enough to get his services? I found him so caring, but not overbearing, that we gave him a personal tip at the end of the cruise. He just was the sweetest person. I think we should all get together with our names, room number, and date of cruise and send it to HAL's home office. I know it probably won't make a difference monetarily, but who knows, it might get him a promotion or something!

I will start this with the following(the powers that be can get our full names off their records:

T.L. Western Caribbean 5/29/04 Stateroom #6103

Several cruises ago we were with Bambang who was working in the Lido then.If this was the same Bambang.

We found him to be just a great person who fits your description perfectly.

Hope to find him again on another cruise.

I seem to remember Bambang on one of our cruises a few years ago, either Zaandam or Statendam. Yes he was very good! I think he was the one who searched the departing passengers all over the ship to give my husband the medication he left in the room.

How nice for you to start this thread about someone you think gave "above and beyond".

It is so important to mention their names on comment sheets when you are so well pleased. That goes into their Personnel file and assures them getting another contract or promotion. There may even be other perks we are not "generallly aware of" that crew earn for getting many positive comments on the end of cruise surveys.

I have read there are some who doubt those comment sheets are read. I assure you they are very carefully read aboard the ship, are very important to careers and are then carefully read in Seattle. They are taken VERY seriously.

Rodree.....You must be thinking of another fellow with the same name (same as we have many gents named John, for example). He can not be both a dining steward and a cabin steward. He'd be one or the other.

I definitely(as well as my picky husband) did fill out the surveys and did definitely mention Bambang by name (as well as the extra tip to him personally). I do hope they take the surveys seriously as we gave them some very specific areas to improve as well as specific easy(in our opinion!) ways to correct or improve on the situation! For example, the internet room is like a steambath. One good thing is it saved me money as it kept my husband out of the room and therefore off the internet with their 50cent/minute charges! icon_smile.gif I suggested that they turn down the thermostat or get some curtains!!

We had a Bambang on a Rotterdam sailing in May in cabin #7011. He was far from the best we've had but this was at the time the new procedures were starting. Lots of confusion and unhappiness. Many can have the same name, I have no idea if this the same person.

In addition to mentioning a steward on the survey form, it would be a nice touch if you also write a short note to the hotel manager specifically mentioning your satisfaction with the services performed by that person. I was told when I wrote such a note that it goes in the employee's personnel file, a copy is presented to the employee and recognition is given personnaly by his/her manager/supervisor.
