What is the covered pool area like on the Maasdam?

I enjoy reading, relaxing, watching the scenery, and using the pool and whirlpool.

Are there padded lounge chairs facing floor to ceiling windows on the Maasdam? In the Solarium on RCCL Vision class ships, they have them.

I tried the find a topic but it was "unavailable".

Also, I posted a similar question yesterday, but I couldn't find it. I hope the boards are working today.

Thanks for your help. This is my first time on Holland. I'm looking forward to this new experience in cruising.

There are floor to ceiling windows. The lounge chairs all face the pool. There are tables and chairs next to the windows with a walkway between the the lounge chairs and tables.

The lounge chairs might have pads. On the Rotterdam this past April, the lounge chairs at the Lido pool had pads but the aft pool they did not. At one time all chairs has pads.

This area was our favorite spot during our cold NE/CAN cruise a few weeks ago. The chairs are padded. The tables near the windows you could move a lounger in that area. There are plenty of towels right there to get. The Lido food is close by including the free ice cream, the grill, a nice bar and the famous HAL Taco bar. One night they pulled out the charcol grill and put on some tuna and steaks. The pool is a nice size with heated fresh water. The 2 hot tubs are a bit small compared to newer ships but the servered their purpose and were clean out each night. There is a band stage and a few times there was a live band there.

Most of our week the top remained closed or cracked open a few feet. Also the mens/ladies spa area with hot suana and steam rooms are close by. The only thing that upset us was on the 3rd day when a perfect day for swimming came along they closed the pool for a puttputt golf contest. They put the putt greens in the water. Our family dosen't play golf so we didn't appreciate them running us out of the warm pool for 2 hours. They should have made the golfers tee off at 8AM like they are use to and when we were still sleeping!

Couldn't you have used aft pool while they had the golf thing in Lido Pool? Was aft pool open and lounges all set up as they usually are?

Sounds like it was on the cold side.

The Maasdam's lounge chairs are not padded, if I remember correctly... they have that webbed fabric laced to the frame of the chair. The wood loungers (not in the pool areas) still had the traditional pad to be tied on the the chair.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I remember the loungers as I described. The Noordam had the plastic loungers with the traditional pad tied on, but I was surprised to see a different type on Maasdam.

F5 - I'm surprised the putt-putt took that long. Usually it's only about a 1/2 hour or so.

You have a good memory. I just checked photos from our March 2004 cruise. The Lido Pool lounge chairs are webbed, same as the aft pool loungers.

I guess when I put 5 towels on them they felt padded! Right the aft pool could have been used during that time but it's that nasty old salt water and you had the wide open spaces blowing on you back there in 50 degree weather.

The puttputt water game was a big deal. Many lined up so we were outnumbered. Why not move that event to the aft pool that was not being used by anyone? Kids are not allowed at the back pool or so we were told. It was an adult event that took up the kiddy pool since Maasdam does not provide a kiddy pool like most ships.

When we were on the Maasdam in November only the aft pool had the new plastic webbed chairs. By the time we got on the ship in May, all the lounge chairs around both pools were changed to the new plastic, webbed loungers.

Only the wooden loungers on the promenade have pads.

As for having a lounge chair by the floor to ceiling windows at the pool, I don't think people will be very happy with you if you moved the tables and chairs.

Thanks for clarififing the weather. I wouldn't want to be taking a swim in the aft pool either.
